HP Office Jet Pro 8610 & 8710
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

We have 7 HP printers and only one had a HP Instant Ink subscription that was recently cancelled.

After a recent software update from HP on our 8610, this printer stop printing  A missing or defective  cartridge(s) message appeared on the  printer's screen. To correct this problem, we installed new generic ink cartridges and reset the printer several times. The  8610  HP Officejet Pro that was purchased in 2015 no longer prints. Prior to HP software update, we used this printer for mostly in-house document copying and had no problem with these generic ink cartridges. The qualify of these generic ink cartridges are comparable to HP Ink cartridge(s).

Now that we cancelled our HP Instant Ink subscription on our 8710 HP Officejet Pro printer, the same missing or defective  cartridge(s) message shows on this printer's screen after installing generic ink cartridges. Our 8710 HP Officejet Pro printer no longer workeven after following "printer reset" instructions several times.

Although we purchased these printers without contingencies, unknowingly to us HP monopolizes our printers "ink type" usage by encrypted software and/or drivers. Years ago the "Epson" manufacture tried this approach and we dumped all thirteen (13) Epson printers which is about to happened to our HP printers.

Unless this problem is resolved immediately, we will return the HP 9025 due to arrive on Thursday, August 20, 2020 and dump remaining HP products including desktop/notebook computers and monitors.

@SJM597, Welcome to HP Support Community!

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).

If you are unfamiliar with how the Forum's private message capability works, you can learn about that here.

Thank you for visiting the HP Support Community.
