Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi there,

After a recent Windows 10 update I am not able to use my printer with my Lenovo laptop (windows 10 - 64bit). Although it is fully functional with my mobile phone I am trying several days now to use the printer and I can't.

When I go to the windows printers and devices menu and click add and insert the wifi-direct password the printer is set up but then I receive the message "Driver unavailable". I have tried to follow HP support instructions - downloaded HP smart and when I start the installation process although the app recognizes the printer when it tries to install network adapter the installation does not finish and i receive the message that cannot connect wirelessly ( i do not have a usb cable). I have also tried to use scan and fix doctor and again the installation is not finalised and I receive an error that the printer is not connected to the internet. When i press the wifi-direct and info and wireless and info buttons on my printer it says that is is connected to my network and that wifi direct is on and functional. Also I have downloaded the driver from HP but again the installation is not finalized and I keep receiving the message that the printer is Offline. Any suggestions?

Many thanks in advance

As I mentioned this started after the latest windows 10 update. Prior to that I have no issues at all.

@Sebastian_S_K,

I reviewed your post and I understand that you are unable to print from your computer after a recent Windows update.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

I recommend you root uninstall the printer and then install the printer using the printer IP address.

Here is how it is done.

1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features

2.) Select your HP Printer

3.) Select Uninstall

4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers

5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose 'Delete' or 'Remove Device'

6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)

8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab

9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom

10.) Select Ok

11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows

12.) Close Devices and Printers

13.) Restart the PC

Add the printer using IP address -

1. Select “Start” and type “printers” in the search box.

2. Choose “Printers & scanners“.

3. Select “Add a printer or scanner“.

4. Wait for the “The printer that I want isn’t listed” option to appear, then select it.

5. Select “Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname” , then select “Next“.

6. Select “TCP/IP Device” in the “Device type” list.

7. Type the hostname or the IP address of the printer. Select “Next“. To find the IP address of the printer, touch the Wi-Fi icon on the printer's control panel.

8. Windows should find the printer if the printer is on and configured correctly. You may have to specify more information. If prompted, Select the type of network adapter installed in the printer in the “Device Type” drop-down list. You can also click “Custom” to specify custom settings for the network printer. Select “Next“

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

Dear Fossete,

Thank you for the detailed analysis.

Unfortunately it didn't work 😞

I have followed every step. Although the printer is installed again ( i can see it in the printers and scanners) it still appears as offline and i cannot use it. I have also installed HP smart which displays again that the printer is offline and then although i choose set up and then diagnose and fix the same issue appears.

Any other suggestions ?

Br.

@Sebastian_S_K,

Is your router configured for 2.4GHz or 5GHz band?

@The _Fossete:

both 2.4 and 5 are active.

Also please note that prior the latest major win 10 update I have had no connection issues with my HP.

Thank you in advance

@Sebastian_S_K,

Your printer supports only 2.4GHz so make sure that both the computer and the printer are connected to 2.4GHz and check if it helps.
