Hp Envy 5663
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Printer will no longer print in Windows 10. Prints fine from mobile devices. It used to work fine for months now I have had "driver not supported" issues. I have the printer connected to my home wifi with no problems.

I have uninstalled all software and drivers numerous times, and reinstalled. Currently I am not having the "driver not supported" message but nothing will print.

When I use the HP Driver assisstant app it connects and retrieves information and will print the Status Report, Diagnostic page, Print quality diagnostic, etc.. but will not print anything through other Windows programs.

Printing pictures gives me "Your printer has experienced an unexpected configuration problem. 0X80004005"

If I go to Devices and Printers and right click on my printer and try to go to Printing Preferences I get and error "Function address 0xfc0f8859 caused a protection fault. (exception code 0xe06d7363) Some or all property page(s) my not be displayed. " And then the preferences page opens up.

If I go to Printer Properties and try to print a Test Page I get a message "Test page failed to print... The parameter is incorrect."   The troubleshooter can't find the issue and does nothing.

I have run the HP Print and Scan Doctor 5.1 and finds no problems till I go to print a test page, which nothing happens, and when I click on No Print the program freezes and must be closed in the Task Manager. So it is also useless. Much like this Printer.

I've made sure the RPC service is running as was suggested in other posts in the forum with this same problem. It has made no difference.

You would think that 2 MASSIVE Corporations such as HP and Microsoft could work together just a little bit to make that their products and drivers actually work together.

I knew I shouldn't have went back to HP knowing their software is crap but the print quality is usually better than others.

I have all programs and drivers up to date including wifi router firmware. I am very technically competent and with high level of Windows knowledge.

Anything you can suggest before I have to buy another brand of printer?

@jayatwork76,

Good Day.  Thank you reaching out to the HP community. I will be glad to assist you and let’s get right to it. Excellent description of the issue. It is amply appreciated.

  • Did this happen after a recent power outage or surge?
  • Did it occur after a software or Windows update?

I will be providing a roadmap with some troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue. Let us try these steps:

Then uninstall and reinstall the printer software at the root level by following these steps:

  • Uninstall the printer from "programs and features" which can be accessed by doing a right-click on the Windows button (Please have the printer Off and disconnected during uninstallation.)
  • Check in device manager, if the printer is listed there, please delete it. (Right click on the Windows button to access device manager)
  • Go to devices and printers, in control panel and select any printer listed there and you will get some options on the top.
  • Click on print server properties.
  • You will get a popup, click on the drivers tab and delete all the HP printer drivers listed there if any.
  • Delete all the instances of your printer listed in devices and printers.
  • Restart the PC.
  • Once the PC is on the desktop, press Win + R, it would bring a Run dialog box,
  • Type %temp% in the run box and click Ok or hit the Enter button.
  • It would bring up the temporary files folder. Delete the files in the folder (You might not be able to delete all the files).
  • If possible, delete the printer from the registries using Regedit or using any other 3rd party application.
  • Ignore the Regedit option if it cannot be done.
  • Restart the PC again.

Log into the new user account after restarting your computer.

Then download the latest full feature driver from https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/swdetails/hp-envy-5660-e-all-in-one-printer-series/...  and install it on the computer after selecting the correct operating system.

Connect the printer to your computer only when the setup prompts for the printer.

This should fix the issue.

If this does not do the trick, please download the Windows Built-in drivers by following instructions from this link: http://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c01796879

This will resolve the issue for you.

Good luck and keep me posted about the developments. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution as it will help several others with the same issue and give the post a Kudos for my efforts to help. Thank you and have a great week ahead. 🙂

Thank you for your reply David.

Per the beginning of your message, no there was not a recent power outage or surge.

I suppose it could be said that it happened after a Windows Update as windows has had many updates since I have purchased the printer but I could not pinpoint to a specific update.

I have followed all of the steps listed in  your reply including deleting every known reference to "HP Envy" in my registry. After reinstalling the software the exact same issues occurred with the printer only functioning from my PC through the HP Printer assistant and not printing elsewhere.

I then finally followed the instructions to add the printer manually through a TCP/IP port and install Windows Drivers and well that actually worked and I am able to print again.

I thank you for the advice. Although I am curious why the manual install of the network printer works flawlessly but trying to install the printer with HP Software and procedure does not work? And why it causes so many errors after installed and trying to print?

Now that I have 2 printers installed (HP's installation that doesn't work and my manual installation that does work) dare I remove the HP installed one? What is the difference between the 2 installations?

I'm sure HP will not answer this, but thank again David I suppose your reply does contain the Accepted Solution. And I can print again.
