HP Envy printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Set up a new HP Envy printer a couple of days ago. Trying to print double sided with flip on long edge (booklet style). I choose the right option from the Print drop down but it refuses to flip on long edge. I’ve set it as the default option - still flips on short edge. I tried selecting flip on short edge to see what happened - exactly the same. Any (simple!) suggestions please for a not very good with IT person very gratefully received. Thanks.

Booklet style printing is easy to get wrong; even when it looks like what you are doing is perfectly logical, "something" can go sideways.

Try / Consider:  Print PDF document in Booklet style

If you can get your document into a PDF format, the following will likely work for you...

If you have not done so, download-save-install the Full Feature Software for your printer.

After the software is installed, Restart the computer and log in.

Reinstall / Update your PDF Reader (Adobe Reader DC /Optional  Foxit Reader)

  • HINT: Watch out for and UNCHECK unwanted extra software
  • Adobe Reader DC software should be installed even if you do not open / view / print PDF files directly from the software.

Next...

  • Open the document in Adobe Reader DC
  • Click the print icon
  • Set the main menu items, including the selection in Page Size for "Booklet"
  • In Properties, select no more than (something similar to) Everyday printing, the Media type (kind of paper), and your paper size.
  • Back in the PDF print menu, select the options you need, including the two-sided printing option.
  • When everything looks ready, click Print

Example:

Hi Dragon-fur, thank you so much for your reply ! I’d already tried printing as a pdf but no joy. I finally tried resetting everything though every way in I could find and it’s sorted. No idea which bit made it behave but I can now print duplex with a long side flip 😊 Just hope it lasts 🤞🤞🤞

You are welcome.

Sometimes it is just a matter of kicking everything hard enough.  🎯

Happy Printing.
