HP LaserJet Enterprise 700 color MFP M775 :

- still stuck on the initialization screen after the firmware has been downloaded on the printer via usb thumb drive

This happens rarely but when it does it can be nerve racking. If you have waited over 30 minutes with no change in the initialization then you are going to have to shut off the machine and then update the firmware through the pre-boot menu. The instructions to perform this are in the firmware readme you can download from support.hp.com. Basically you turn the printer off, power on and when the HP Logo appears on the screen with a bar under it, touch the logo. Go to Administration>download and select the last option which will prompt you to insert the usb stick with firmware. Press OK to accept and it will download the firmware. When you see the complete message, unplug the USB key, power off the machine and then restart. Unit should startup and install the firmware.

Have followed the instructions but initialization restarts and stops at 4/8...

Have tried replacing the old hard drive with a new one but now the printer prompts this error : Communication Lost (device <--> control panel..)Error_printer.jpg

Is there any way to resolve this ?

Were you able to go into the preboot menu with the new drive and format and update the firmware? If not you may have to clear the disk password (these drives are self-encrypting) and reuse requires passwords to be cleared first.

No

Was this a used harddrive from another machine or a new drive? Typically if you swap the drive and the rest of the machine is working then you will get a 99.xx.xx error regarding the drive. If you are not getting that it is quite possible that you have other issues. These printers do have preboot diagnostics available, check for a private message with instructions.
