HP Laserjet 4300 dtn
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have operated my HP Laserjet 4300 dtn printer (with additional stacker) as a networked printer singly attached to my Windows XP PC via an ethernet cable, for many years, but would now like to connect it to my Windows 10 x64 laptop. I believe this has been done successfully by others reporting in this community (see:  https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-Setup-Software-Drivers/HP-LaserJet-4300-driver-for-Windows-10/... ).

I have installed the latest versions of the Universal Printer Driver PCL6 and PS from: https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-laserjet-4300-printer-series/84043

But while attempting to set up the printer (attached via an ethernet cable), the software does initially discover the printer at 198.162.100.2, and then fails to "validate" it:

and finally gives me no other option but to exit from the attempt:

The same thing happened when I attempted with the PostScript driver, and also when I attempted the installation on a separate Windows 7 (x64) laptop.

Can anyone help?

Some additional information which might help:

I tried pinging 192.168.100.2 from the command prompt, but got a timeout message:

I wonder if this indicates a malfunctioning network card.

However that I am still able to connect and print using my older Windows XP (32 bit) based PC. But there too the pinging is similarly unfruitful.
