macOS 10.15 Catalina

Hi HP Community,

 

I have HP Office Jet Pro 8715 All-in-one printer and the printer/scanner/fax function that suddenly stopped working as of 10/23/2020.  I have an iMac running OS Catalina 10.15.7.  When I try to print I get an error message from the printer, "Stopped - 'Filter' Failed" and info icon, "One or more components of the HP printing software are corrupted or missing.  To fix this, HP recommends reinstalling the print driver software"

 

When I try to use the scanner I get an error message, "Failed to open a connection to the device (-21345)"

 

A reply to Bhavesh13  who posted a similar problem (with a different HP printer) recommended to download and install a package which updated drivers WITH THE CERTIFICATE:

I tried this download and it did NOT correct the problem, probably because my printer is a different one.  Can you help me or is this something that can only be solved by HP and/or Apple with several days of downtime?  Frankly, I find it amazing that HP can have many users stranded due to some sort of software incompatibility with OS Catalina 10.15.7 and not have a fix immediately available.

Try doing the second part of the instructions here:

The solution is to download (and install) this package which will update drivers AND THE CERTIFICATE:
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/HP_Quick_Start/osx/Installations/Essentials/hp-printer-essen...

It is NOT the same as the driver package, Easy Start, or Easy Admin other people are recommending.

If the link comes up blank, try right clicking and saving it. If you install this package and still have trouble, try uninstalling your printer and reinstalling by going through Apple Logo (Upper Left of Screen)/System Preferences/Printers & Scanners.

 

Easy Admin did nothing. Easy Startup did nothing. 5.1 drivers did nothing. This worked for me!
