I have the 8600 all in one printer,. After having had the famous ink system failure message, a semi-full reset has been initiated. Now I am unable to get past the animation screen requesting that the setup cartridges be installed. When I try to continue with my current fresh ones, the printer again shows Ink system failure. I no longer have any setup cartridges them and would like to be able to use my printer again.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to assist you.
I see that you are facing an issue with setting up your printer after performing a factory reset.
I've sent you a private message with the instructions to override the setup ink cartridges by using genuine HP ink.
In order to access your private messages, Click the Private message icon on the upper right corner of your HP Community profile Next, to your profile Name, you should see a little blue envelope, please click on it or simply click on this link
