I do not see a security setting in my smart application

HP Recommended

There is not a "Admin" or "Security" option after clicking on settings.

This thing is a **bleep** paper weight at this point.  Very aggravating.

It's sad that HP has not fixed this problem.  To access the Printer Security Settings, you may need to use the Desktop version of the HP Smart app.  I have a newer HP laptop.  As an added set, I also removed and then added the HP 9010 series printer to my computer (Devices).  Good luck. Bob R.

To characterize this as "solved" certainly does not apply to my case.  I have gone throgh and tried every proposed solution provided in this thread an no joy.  Boxs are not present, can't be checked, applying them does absolutely nothing, etc., etc.  Now, MS Office 365 updates regularly - no problem.  Intel drivers - no problem, Adobe - no problem.  And on it goes.  I have at least a dozen applications that regularly update with no problem whatsoever.  But HP.  What a load of crap.  Hey HP; get off your a$$, go hire some competent sofware engineers and provide services and solutions that actually work for the users' benefit rather than make us jump through a bunch of hoops trying to do the job you ahould have performed in the first place.  I have my own work to do.  I don't have time to do yours as well because of your indifference and incompetence.  You deserve to go the way of Digital.

I do not like the fact that HP has basically made our printers useless by cyber unusable firmware.  There should be a class action against HP.  If we could get a list... I am sure whereas I am in Florida, the attorney suit crazy state, we could find someone to take this on.

For thos who are subscribed to the Instant Ink plan, you can't actually disable firmware updates (control is grayed out).  You will need to cancel your subscription first, then you can disable the firmware updates.  What a PAIN!

I have an instant Ink subscription. I had the same problem trying to disable automatic updates through the front panel. However, after the failed download I hit retry and waited for a solid blue light which put me back on WiFi. Then I used HP Smart to select my printer. (I verified that I had a green circle with a checkmark in it to indicate that the printer was online.) From there I chose Settings > Advanced Settings > Security > Administrator Settings. I scrolled to the bottom of the page to Printer Updates to turn them off. Then enter Apply. It's working as it should. I don't know if this will prevent Instant Ink from working but, I think not since the ink supply is being checked for HP Smart to display my ink levels.

Thanks but this didn't work for me. When I click Advanced Settings it takes me to my router log in page instead of a settings page for the printer.

I finally had to call instant ink to cancel subscription because the only way i could get the pritner to work is disconnect from web sevices, which then told me i could not use ink cartridges until subscription renewed.  They took control of my computer and printer and somehow fixed it.... the update was gone and there is only now a March 23 update.

In order to get the "Admin Settings" menus to work, you have to catch the physical printer when it is not trying to download the updates. I had to turn off/on the printer a couple of times and also restarted my Windows laptop, then was able to finally get through the following:

HP Smart App on Windows 11: Printer Settings > Settings-Advanced Settings > "HP OfficeJet-Embedded Web Server"- Settings > Security > Administrator Settings > Printer Updates (then uncheck the 2 boxes under this)

After checking off the "Printer Updates", the printer ran without issues, or going offline trying to do downloads  This whole incident pushed me to cancel my Instant Ink subscription. Your printer will continue to function until your next Instant Ink renewal, which it was doing fine for me. But now I have my retail purchased ink, which I have installed, and my printer is printing and scanning fine.

I know it is the way of the future, to have companies constantly connected to cars, phones, and our printers - but with HP, this connection and its OTA's are NOT seamless. I dislike that I have to be signed on to HP to just use my printer when on the Instant Ink program. Hopefully I am now rid of being held hostage by HP.

Good luck with getting your printers working. HP has got to know this issue exists now that  @Richard3197 called this in and the reason I gave for cancelling my Instant Ink subscription included a link to this community thread.
