Very Grateful for your solution!! All of a sudden our HP4650 Officejet purchased last year would not allow color printing or provide any choice of 'Color' or 'Black and White' within 5 minutes time. I went through removal and reinstalling of full package of drivers from HP as well as restoring factory setup and memory. None of these worked.
I googled 'no color option' on HP4650. Found Senen6806 hp post under the question. I followed Senen6806' instructions to the letter, chose HPEnvy7640, changed label back to HP 4650 and we are printing color with a choice of 'Color' or 'Black and white'.
Thank you for making this post available.
Stay safe

I did the alternate driver method using the Envy 7640. It did not improve things at all - that is no color. It worked yesterday, failed today, works again after removing the device and reinstalling using the Smart App for Windows 10. Also, others suggest selecting Color under Printer Preferences - no such option on my machine. BTW, all works fine from my mobile phone, my wife's similar computer, her mobile phone and her tablets. Sometime the fix will fail the very next day other times will work for a couple of weeks and then fail. No Windows update last night.
I think it is high time for HP to do a deep dive on this and fix the issue once and for all.

The procedure did not work for me the first time I tried it. I apparently missed a step. I removed the printer, reinstalled it using the Smart App and then followed the procedure using the Envy 4510 driver. All now works perfectly. Thanks.

Hello Senan6806, i have the same issue with an HP ENVY 5547. If I print from my smartphone,,it comes in color. When I print from my Acer Aspire 5 with windows 10, it turns regularly to black and white instead of color. The only way for me to get the prtinting in color back is to uninstall and reinstall the printer which should not be the solution!!
Can I use the same solution that you mentioned for an HP?
Thank you
Best regards

~ What is happening that is causing the printer to not print in color is that the drivers are being updated, thus replacing the old drivers which worked in color. Why this is even happening is still being juggled & tossed up in the air as a conundrum by many an HP client with no help from HP.
~ I would replace the printer drivers with the oldest & original drivers that actually worked, then uncheck any settings that update the drivers for that particular printer thru any other programs, including Windows Update.
~ Make sure any automatic updates for your printer are disabled.
~ Stay Safe & Healthy

YEA!!!!!!! Kudos to the author of this solution -- One little suggestion I think this solution might have been clearer if the author had simply said. "The 4650 driver is crap. What you need to do is download the 7640 driver and use it instead." My 4650 was hooked up when I installed the 7640 driver and basically, I pretended that the printer was a 4650 when I installed the driver. I then followed the instructions below and everything works great.

This solved my OfficeJet 4650 problem with coloir printing for Windows 10 as well. It would not print in color nor "auto-duplex" with the standard driver.
To be specific this is the driver I selected, under the Printer Properties "Advanced" tab and "New Driver..." button:
HP ENVY 7640 series
HP, can you *please* fix the OfficeJet 4650 driver for Windows 10 so we don't have to spend hours hunting message boards trying to fix issues that are eventually resolved by selecting drivers for *other* HP printers?
