My 2019-05-27 Belarc Advisor Current Profile shows HP Officejet 5600 series on USB002.  Upon running HP Print and Scan Doctor, came to “Choose your product”.  My “missing” HP Officejet 5600 series was shown as “(Installed)”.  Clicking on that icon momentarily gave "... Communicating with HP Officejet 5600 series.”  Result was, “A later version of software is available for this product.”  Sounds like I may have a solution.  Clicked on “Install Software”.  Result was, “Another instance of this application is already running.”  This was not a solution.

Apparently HP Officejet 5600 series driver(s) are installed and up to date.

How can I get a new shortcut icon for HP Officejet 5600 series on Control Panel Item: Devices and Printers?

It's a miracle!  You asked, "Are you using any other printer apart from HP Officejet 5600?"  In order to get the info needed to answer that, I opened Devices and Printers from Control Panel.  Lo and behold, there was an icon for HP Officejet 5600 series!  I failed to mention initially that there was a HP Officejet 5600 series fax (or similar verbiage) icon to begin with.  I right-clicked on the new icon and had the choice of printer or fax.  I chose printer, set it as the default printer, and printed a test page.  I guess all is now okay in regard to my initial issue???  To answer your question: Yes, I use a HP OfficeJet 4650.

Thank you for your help, Raj.  I'm not sure what happened, but I'm okay for the time being.

By coincidence your second message came in just ahead of a message from my friend Raj (Rajagopalan Ranjan) who lives in Victoria, TX.

Welcome to the HP Community

I recommend you delete the driver at the root level and Install the drivers, follow the steps below:

Remove the USB if connected

1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features

2.) Select your HP Printer

3.) Select Uninstall

4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers

5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose `Delete' or `Remove Device'

6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between "printui.exe" and "/s")

8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab

9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom

10.) Select Ok

11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows

12.) Close Devices and Printers

Then, Click on this link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-officejet-5600-all-in-one-printer-series/441142 to download and install the HP Officejet 5600 All-in-One Printer series Full Feature Software and Drivers.

Keep me posted, how it goes!

Thanks for your detailed response, Raj.  I'm stuck already ... on step 2.)  There is no line item for HP OfficeJet 5600 series (see screenshot below).  I'm thinking that HP Photosmart Officejet and Deskjet All-in-One Driver Software 13.0 Rel. B might be what needs to be uninstalled.  Please advise.  Thanks, Buddy

Are you using any other printer apart from HP Officejet 5600?

If you are not using any of those printers uninstall everything and proceed with the new installation.
