HP Officejet 7612
macOS 10.12 Sierra

I recently upgraded my Mac to OS 10.12 Sierra, and my HP Officjet 7612 will no longer print from the computer.  It also temperamentally breaks down and won't power on.  It wouldn't scan either until I got the Easy Scan app, which doesn't work too well either.  I assume that I need a new driver, but there isn't one available for my OS.  What can I do?  The printer is only about 15 months old.

Need drivers for the new Mac OS version. Is that right?

Thank you for sharing the issue details. I would like to help you.

As of now, HP is still working on developing drivers for the new Mac OS for few printer models.

Hope that your printer is one of them and it can only be known once the update alert pops up on the PC screen.

Hope this helps. Let me know for more.

Happy posting.

Thank you for your reply. Any idea how long it will take to get the new driver? As of now, I can't print. Thank you. Suzanne

Thanks for the reply,

I do not have information on the release date of the driver or whether it would be released for the printer. However, I would like to provide some suggestion.

Recommend you to make sure the computer and the printer are on the same network.

Open system preferences from the Apple Menu.

Go to print and fax.

Check if the printer is listed in print and fax.

If it is not listed, under the printers you will have a +/- button on the bottom.

Press the + button hope the computer detects the printer, you can also check under bonjour printers as well for the printer.

If the MAC computer detects the printer, it might be able to install a generic driver.

The generic driver will assist you to use the printer with default settings, it will not provide the full functionality.

Let me know if this helps, for further assistance please reply.

We are having the same issue. It is imperative that this be expedited by HP as the 7612 is one of the few large format printer scanners available to architecture firms such as ours.

This is especially conerning since the original question was posted in Nov 2016.

My HP Officejet Pro 8600 wouldn't print with my new MacBook Pro that uses Sierra 10.12.6. HP has developed a new driver, as of June 2017, that seems to have solved the problem. Go to the HP Support page and click on "Drivers" and enter the information for your HP printer and HP will recommend the new drivers that you need once you enter information about your MacBook Pro. The instiallation process is fairly straight forward, but I finally had to click on "skip and install the driver" to get where I needed to be. Once I did that it worked. It will also install a new scan driver, which also works.

my 7612 printer is also not working. Very frustrating!!

What a waste of money. HP - you should update drivers asap - unacceptable.
