The scan feature on the above printer has disappeared.  I have tried to remove and reinstall but I have the same problem.  i have decided to reinstall the print drivers but the printer is so old that I cant find them.  Can anyone suggest how I can get this feature back.  I know it is old but it works and i don't really want to buy a new one. Many thanks in advance

Thanks for your help on this.

I think I may have found a work around after scratching my head over the weekend.  The printer is near enough to connect by cable and after finding the right one and plugging in, then hey presto, the scan featured returned.  And it works perfectly.

On that basis I am content to leave it be.  The only thing I will say is that trying to connect via wi fi loses the scan function. Very odd.  But thanks  for your help

Welcome to the HP Forums, this is a great location to get assistance! I read your post and see that you are unable to scan from your Mac with MacOS 10.13 High Sierra. I would like to help you resolve this issue.

However, I will need a few details to provide an accurate solution,

When did this issue start?

Did you do any hardware or software changes?

Meanwhile

Install a Mac printer driver using apple software update

  1. Click the Apple menu, then click System Preferences.

  2. Depending on your operating system version, click Print & Fax, Print & Scan, or Printers & Scanners.

Figure : Example of the Printers & Scanners window

  3. Check if the name of your printer displays in the Printers list. Do one of the following steps, depending on if the printer is listed or not.

    • If your printer is listed, remove and re-add the printer to confirm communication and to make sure the correct driver is used. Click the name of your printer, then click the minus sign  to delete the printer. Once the printer is removed, click the plus sign , click Add Printer or Scanner, click the name of your printer, then continue to the next step.

    • If your printer is not listed, click the plus sign, click Add Printer or Scanner, click the name of your printer, then continue to the next step.

    • If your printer is not listed in the Add Printer or Scanner window, make sure the printer is connected to the Mac with a USB cable, or that it is on the same wired or wireless network as your Mac. See the Frequently asked questions in this document to resolve connection issues, try to add the printer again, then continue to the next step.

  4. Click the Use or Print Using menu, then select the name of your printer.

       NOTE:

Selecting a Generic driver option from the Use menu can result in limited printer functionality.

Select the name of your printer in the Use menu
  5. Click Add to add the printer to the list

  6. Close the System Preferences window.

  7. Try to print, scan, or fax, depending on your printer functionality.

Click here and refer the HP document for more assistance.

Let me know how it goes.

Cheers.
