After many years using my HP Deskjet F4272 All-in-one colour printer with my HP Pavilion 17 Notebook laptop, I am now having problems with the scanned files which I am now unable to open with message 'data invalid'.  I ran HP Print & Scan Doctor and Fix Printer checks out OK but Fix Scanner produces message 'unable to find Solution Centre application that is needed to scan using HP software. Tried reinstall using Printer original installation CD but still have the same problem. Tried downloading HP Smart from Microsoft Store but download fails. HP no longer supporting either my laptop or printer anymore because they are older models, so no help there, what a surprise!!!  Anybody out there who can help?

Hi @Ken-Fish183

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're dealing with multiple issues related to your HP Deskjet F4272 and the HP Smart app. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve these issues:

1. HP Smart App Download Issues

  • Check Internet Connection: Ensure your internet connection is stable. Try resetting your router or connecting via a different network if possible.
  • Clear Microsoft Store Cache:
    1. Press Windows + R to open the Run dialog.
    2. Type wsreset.exe and hit Enter. This will clear the cache for the Microsoft Store.
  • Try Reinstalling the Store: If clearing the cache doesn’t help, you can try reinstalling the Microsoft Store:
    1. Open PowerShell as an administrator.
    2. Type the following command and press Enter:
    3. Then, reinstall it by searching for "Microsoft Store" in PowerShell.

2. Using Alternative Software for Scanning

  • Windows Fax and Scan: You can use this built-in utility to scan documents:
    1. Search for "Windows Fax and Scan" in the Start menu.
    2. Click on New Scan and follow the prompts.
  • Third-Party Scanning Software: If the HP Smart app fails, consider using third-party software like NAPS2 or VueScan, which often support a wide range of printers.

3. Resolving Invalid Data Error

Update Drivers: Make sure your printer drivers are up to date. You can do this through Device Manager:

  1. Right-click on the Start button and select Device Manager.
  2. Expand Printers, find your HP Deskjet, right-click it, and select Update Driver.

Scan to PDF Settings: If you’re scanning to PDF, check the settings in the scanning software. Ensure you’re using compatible file formats and settings.

4. Reinstall Printer Software

  • Download the Latest Drivers: Go to the HP support website and search for your printer model. Download the latest drivers and software available for your operating system.
  • Uninstall Old Software: Before reinstalling, completely uninstall any previous HP software to avoid conflicts:
    1. Go to Settings > Apps.
    2. Find HP software and uninstall it.

5. Using HP Print and Scan Doctor

  • Since you’ve already run the HP Print and Scan Doctor, make sure to follow any prompts it gives and check its recommendations carefully.

6. Check USB and Connectivity Issues

  • If you’re connected via USB, try a different cable or port.
  • If using Wi-Fi, ensure that the printer is connected to the same network as your laptop.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
