After downloading my High Sierra iOs 10.13.2 my HP printer lost contact with my iMac. I've shut both devices down, rebooted (even did it twice with Applecare supervising) and still my iMac with this new iOs won't recognize the HP printer.

The printer is at least 4 years old and the iMac is over 5 years old. Is there any hope?

Hi,

Is the pritner connected wirelessly or with an etehrnet  cable?

Tap the Ethernet/Network icon and locate the printer's IP address.

Can you access this address from Safari?

Assuming you can accesss the printer page, have you tried rebooting your router as well? if not please give it a try.

Allow it 3 minutes to start, then restart the printer too and check again.

I found it odd that the Apple tech didn’t suggest this. Maybe I should have thought of it myself. But it’s easy to draw a blank.

What if you can't access the printer page via the IP address?
