Hi everybody,
I'm running my LaserJet M28w with the HP smart app on version13..1.0 (560) under macOS Monterey 12.0.1.
Actually there is no scanning or printing of pictures without registration/login possible.
When clicking on scanning, I get a login-popup. Closing the popup makes me return to the menu screen.
That was different in the past and still is under Windows 10 or iOS, where I can use the functions w/o registration or login.
Of course I also want to be able to use my printer w/o internet connection and I think, that registration should not be mandatory for local scanning or printing.
Is this a bug in the software?
Regards
Peter

@Betty0610
Thanks for that advice.
I already upgraded to 13.2.0 (562) three days ago.
The behavior of the software is the same.
So for me it looks like HP is meanwhile forcing their customers to register and share their data for being able to use basic functions they already paid for when buying the printer in the past.
I don't need any cloud functionality for my local printer.
That's annoying.😒

I have the same problem with HP Deskjet 4100e, latest HP Smart ("updated 2 days ago"), Mac OS Monterey 12.0.1. Safari is default browser, so that's not a solution for me. I can scan using HP Smart on iPhone, so not dead in the water, but cannot scan on my shiny new macbook air 😞

I had the same problem with a brand new iMac M1 (Dec 2021).
For some reason, it would not update from Mac OS 12.0.1 to 12.1 until today.
It kept giving me errors, but on the 4th try, it finally downloaded the update.
My HP SMART was downloaded from the 123hp.com web site, which re-directed you to the Apple App Store.
But, on 12.0.1 it allowed me to sign in, install my printers, and print.
However, every time I tried to SCAN, it would give me the Registration page (Register or Sign in).
When I went to sign in, I all I got was a message to open a browser window.
So, I went into Safari Preferences and made sure to enable pop-up screens.
Safari > Preferences > Web sites > Pop-ups Windows (Bottom of the menu) -- scroll to support.hp.com. ALLOW
After the upgrade, HP SMART did allow me scan, but only after I signed in.
When you choose Sign In, a window pops up.
This wasn't a problem when I initially set-up the printers with HP SMART,
but it happened when I tried to SCAN.
I don't understand why I have to "Sign In to HP" in order to scan with my printer, but that's the way works now.
At least it works, now.
Fix for me was:
1) Upgrade from Mac OS 12.0.1 to 12.1
2) Allow Pop-ups for hp.com web sites

Well, I'm unable to use my own scanner now, on MacBook Pro M1 Max 2021, Monterey 12.1.
HP Smart requires me to sign in, but once I do it the page in Safari just says "Something went wrong. We're sorry for the inconvenience, please try again"...
We would I need to sign in to HP to scan on my own local printer (that I BOUGHT from you), on my own local network???
This is completely unacceptable and I think grounds for a class action lawsuit unless you get this together.

This is a puzzle to me...not only do I have to sign into to HP to do a simple scan, the HP Smart.app takes a long time to launch and scan...and then fails at the end..."HP Smart quit unexpectedly. The Apple report says
"*** Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSTableViewException'"
Sure wish I had bought the Epson printer....
