HP7720
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a new 7720.

I connected it to my Dell XPS13 no problem.  It prints. It works as it should.

I connected it to my Alienware same hour of the day same network.  It will not complete the final network connection setup.

I cannot print.  The Driver is unavailable in Direct Print.

I have uninstalled, rebooted, cleared cache, deleted temporary files and done regedit.

As a last resort I installed HP Smart App.

The App on the Alienware find the printer.

The printer is green, online ready.  I click the printer to select and complete installation, and the green dot turns red instantly and the error message 'switch on your printer' comes up.  I refresh.  dot comes back green.  I click. Dot turns red.

Please Help

following up on this, it may be a corrupted TCP/IP printer post as the first install failed....the problem now is I do not know what the 'duplicate' port is as the software attempts to install it gets confussed as its 'live' and defaults to a printer offline....but then checks....and it isnt....🤔  is this likely and does this cause that fault?

if its possible which port can i safely delete?....trying to avoid a system restore issue.....🙄

or my backup option is to go back to my old DOS days and just copy files from my XPS to a USB and paste them in the appropriate folder.......

oh how i wish software installation was straightforward......one for the programmers to debug correctly and ensure things cant happen......sometimes all we want as consumers is for the basic things to work.....

OK...ive done this...and now my printer appears and programs try to print but i get print error in the printer dialogue box.....so its acting like its trying to print now.....hmmm.....whats stopping it.....

1. Press Windows+R and type in control printers 2. Right click the printer with the issue and choose properties 3. Go to the web services tab, save and copy the IP address under troubleshooting information as a reference to the printer's IP address 4. Close the window and right click the same printer 5. Choose to remove device 6. Go to start/search and type in hdwwiz.exe and open the application 7. Choose the option "Install the hardware that I manually select from a list 8. Locate printer and choose next 9. Choose to create a new port and choose standard tcp/ip port 10. On the hostname type in the IP address from the printer that you've saved from step 3 11. Choose the option "Replace the current driver" 12. Choose printer name 13. Choose the option "Share this printer so that others on your network can find and use it.

 Hi @ColonialCascade,

I'd like to help with the printer connectivity issue.

Use HP Print and Scan Doctor to check connectivity

Download a special version of HP Print and Scan Doctor specifically created to help with printer offline conditions.

  1. Download HP Print and Scan Doctor.
  2. Run HPPSdr.exe from the download location on your computer.
  3. Once HP Print and Scan Doctor opens, click Start, and then select your printer.
    • If your printer in not in the list, turn it off and on, and then click Retry.
    • If there is a connection problem, follow the instructions in HP Print and Scan Doctor.
  4. If a screen prompts you to turn on printer updates, click Yes.
  5. If a screen prompts you to make your printer the default printer, click Yes.

Set a manual IP-

To set a manual IP and try the steps below -

--->Touch on the wifi icon ((i)) on the printer, and take down the IP address

--->Open a web browser (ex Chrome or Mozilla) and type in the printer's IP

--->then go to network ---> general ---> network protocols ---> select IPV4 only-->apply

--->go to wireless ---> wireless 802.11---> select manual ip ---> apply

--->Enter 8.8.8.8 for the first DNS and 8.8.4.4 for the second DNS.

--->then go to settings on the main ews page --> power management ---> select sleep mode to max 15min

Connect the printer to TCP/IP port- follow the below instructions-

--->Touch on the wifi icon ((i)) on the printer, and take down the IP address

a. Click Start/Devices and Printers.  Right-click on your HP Printer.  Select Printer Properties.  Select the Ports tab at the top.

b.    Select Add Port.  Select Standard TCP/IP Port.  Select New Port.

c.    Follow the Add Port Wizard.  Under Printer Name or IP Address, .  Example:  192.168.1.15.  The IP address will be copied under Port Name.

d.    Select Next and Finish the Wizard.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

NO Joy

My computer only finds the printer as DIRECT-2B-HP Office Jet Pro 7720

The Other computers list it as HP Office Jet Pro series [B8462A]

and it says driver is unavailable, despite unintstalling, reinstalling and having HP Smart scan and trying every option

The only option I get is to remove device, I cant create a port.

Clearly the initial installation software embedded something that just wont go!

also, the IP address couldn't be changed I had a different screen on the Network and IPv4 configuration.

Any more suggestions?

Do you have software that will allow a completely clean uninstall please?

eg  there are several programs i have to remove independently

And one pernicious beast!

hp support solutions framework

this cannot be uninstalled as

hp support assistant requires it

I just want ALL HP files off my computer, even any placed in the kernel and I can do a fresh install that the right way, so how do i achieve it without all this tedium?

Then perhaps the brick will transform as if by magic into  a printer

Thanks
