What do you mean "through system preferences"? Still can't print or add the printer, I keep getting the same malware error.
I've also checked HP's driver download page for my printer (Deskjet 3050) and it's the same I have, from August 2020.

Multiple problems with Mac and HP due to certificate issue. Solution is to download and install: ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/HP_Quick_Start/osx/Installations/Essentials/hp-printer-essentials-S-5_14_8_4.pkg

Hi,
I have HP LaserJet 1018, berest Mac OS X, and I had the same problem - SOLVED right now.
Steps.
1. Remove printer
2. Uninstal drivers (HP Uninstaler)
3. Check that, all printers drivers gone (try add and find right driver)
4. Install hp-printer-essentials-S-5_14_8_4.pkg
5. Install "HP Printer Drivers v5.1" for OS X (600,3 MB)* from https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1888?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
6. Add printer.
*I found the same name drivers that weight 573,9 MB after download. That drivers don't work for me.
Thats works for me. Other HP software didn't work.
