HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus e-All-in-One Printer - N911g locked screen with damaged cartridges error (from security update ref non-HP cartridegs)
System win 7 64bit
Replaced with all HP cartridges but still got error.
Found HP update to fix this
''HP Officejet Pro 8610/8620/8630/8640/8660 and HP OfficeJet 8600 Series Printer Firmware Updater
1828A 23.5 MB Aug 3, 2018
BUT!!!
when I run it it won't find the printer to update. The printer is connected OK I can communicate with it and HP help can locate it just not the firmwareupdate.
I have all the printer properties details - port etc- but there's no way to enter these manually in the automatic locate printer screen of the updater.
I have tried deleting/re-installing HP printer software and drivers repeatedly but still no recognition of the printer by HP frirmware update.
Tried from PC and laptop, wireless and usb - no different
This printer is late 2009 and doesn't have direct stand alone update facility, so unforunately can't can't try updating from printer itself.
It went ok up to this point and having spent unnecessary £100 on hp cartridges I am reluctant to junk it now.
So any help greatly appreciated.
My last ditch option will probably be to get at internal battery and remove it to see if that clears the memory of no hp cartridges.
Any experience?

If you have a firmware that prevents using a non-genuine ink cartridges related issue then a set of genuine cartridges would work just fine.
You probably have a printhead error that is most common on those printers.

Please also open HP Smart on your PC, if your printer is not listed click the plus sign and add it.
Double-click the printer and select Supplies Status.
Please include a screenshot of the screen, including both the Supported and Installed sections.
