I'm on a mac running IOS 15 (Catalina). I cannot find anyway to get the paper tray option to make tray 2 the default tray to use. The options on the control panel on the printer itself do not have a default paper tray option (at least one that I can find). I now own two of these printers in two locations, and they are great other than this very annoying issue.

Hi @SarahinDC
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.
It seems like setting Tray 2 as the default paper tray on your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP 3301 is a bit tricky, especially on macOS Catalina.
Here are some steps to help you resolve this:
1. Check Printer Settings on the Control Panel
- On the printer itself, navigate to Settings or Paper Handling.
- Look for an option to set the default tray. If it's not visible, it might be under Tray Settings or Preferences.
2. Configure Tray Settings via macOS
- Open a document and go to File > Print.
- Click Show Details at the bottom of the print dialog to reveal more options.
- Select Paper/Quality or Source from the dropdown menu and choose Tray 2.
- Save these settings as a preset for future use.
3. Use the HP Smart App
- Download the HP Smart app and check if it allows you to configure tray settings. Some users have reported limited options in the app, but it's worth exploring.
4. Access the Printer's Web Interface
- Find the printer's IP address by printing a network configuration page.
- Enter the IP address into a web browser to access the Embedded Web Server (EWS).
- Look for tray settings under Paper Handling or Preferences.
