HP ENVY 6420e All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

From an earlier post: So far very happy with the Envy 6400 series printer, however, I find that the blue light for the paper feed tray is a waste of energy. I know its an led lamp and must be consuming next to no energy but if this trend is being used for all new printers then the Global impact will be surprisingly considerable.

Can HP let me know how to switch off this lamp? I can only reduce the lighting intensity but cannot switch it off. There are other lights on the printer to show that its ON, so the lamp above the paper feed tray is pointless.

Please advise.

I did not find a good response in the post that I copied the above from. When is a software patch available that lets me not only dim the edge light but switch it off completely. EU is implementing the green deal, saving energy all over the place so having an unwanted light on on the printer is counter productive. Wireless connections are already consuming energy and a WiFi indicator is on. So far the best solution for me it to switch off the printer when not in use which by energy consumption standards is a wise thing to do anyway.

@PvdLinden, Welcome to the HP Support Community! I’m here to help.

I understand your concern. However, as of now only dimming the light option is available.

I will pass on the feedback to the respective team at HP.

Thanks for the response. I hope that reaching out to the respective team at HP will result in a firmware update that allows users to completely swith off the standby edge light. Both the excess power consumption and bright light in the bedroom are now solved by switching off the printer when not in use. This is not beneficial to HP monitoring the printer for ink usage or downloading available updates to the printer.

Looking forward to seeing the edge light being switched off when the printer is idle. Until then I cannot press the Accept as solution button.
