I set the 2640 up; it is connected to the wifi and the computer sees it & auto installed the drivers. A test page was printed. A print job was printed but only to 8 1/2 x 11 paper.
I attempted to print a job to 'half size-letter' (5 1/2 x 8 1/2) sheet. The print error lighted up on the little control panel The printer does not recognize the paper size. Even when selected in the printer advance properties. The printer does not print envelopes ( # 6 3/4) correctly; even thou print preview is correct. After spending 2 days going through HP's online trouble shooting steps ... nothing works. ... The printer only prints to 8 1/2 x 11 paper. However, the other paper sizes are listed in the printer's properties.
I uninstalled and reinstalled the printer. The 1st install the printer was recognized as a 2600; the 2nd install was recognized as a 2640. I downloaded the HP 2640 driver and attempted to install it. After attempting to installing, the error message states the driver was not installed. .... I down loaded the firmware update and with a direct USB connection (with wifi turned off) the firmware upgrade was not able to recognize the printer. ... HP print scan Dr doesn't even find the printer.
HP professional tech support is nonexistent. I made 4 calls and got referred to an 800 number going overseas (?). then got transferred twice to other techs. Each time the digital connection got worse until voice speech from the other end was garbled & unrecognizable. I hung up 3 times. The 800 number was uselessness.
I know the problem has to be driver related. But the driver & the firmware up grade will not recognize the printer and thus will not install. This printer will be turned to the store tomorrow.

@edwmax52, Welcome to HP Support Community!
I understand your concern. Before you return the printer, I would recommend you try the steps below-
I recommend you delete the driver and root level and retry, follow the steps below:
1) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features
2) Select your HP Printer
3) Select Uninstall
4) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers
5) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose ‘Delete’ or ‘Remove Device’
6) Open up the run command with the “Windows key + R” key combo.
7) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe”
😎 Click on the “Drivers” tab
9) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom
10) Select Ok
11) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows
12) Close Devices and Printers.
Now, try the Windows built-in drivers. Follow the steps below:
• Go to Control Panel - Devices and printers - Click on "Add printer" and follow the on-screen instructions.
• When the page prompts for the drivers, select "Windows update". The driver list will be updated.
• Click HP, Hewlett Packard, or Hewlett-Packard in the Manufacturer pane, and then click the name of your printer in the Printers pane.
Refer to this document HP Printers - Installing and Using the Windows Built-in Print Driver for help.

I've already returned the 2640 printer. So I can't try your steps above.
However, I did delete the print a couple of times using control panel remove device and re-install. Each time the HP printer drivers did not install; But the printer would print a test page. ... In the printer properties the printer driver update could not find the connected printer or update. No driver was shown.
I downloaded the HP Firemware update for the printer. With a direct connection by the USB the update could not find the printer.
I believe the HP 2640 drivers never installed and the printer was using a crippled windows driver to print the test page, alignment page, and the 8 1/2 x 11 print job I had. ... Before I boxed up the printer I attempted a document scan. The scanner was not working. So none of the proper drivers were loading.
Thanks for you help ... but it's too little and too late ... I am a computer tech. This Walmart $24 printer wasn't worth the three days I spent trying to get it working. ... I do advise my customers that ask about printer repair on low cost printer to just buy a new one. My time & fee would be more than the cost of a new printer.
My Officekjet 7610/7612 has a jammed carriage error message. The carriage is not jammed and can be moved freely by hand. I believe the carriage drive motor is dead. I need the break down to remove and replace the carriage motor. .... Can you help here. I bought the hp 2640 to use while fixing the 7612.

Thanks for replying!
I understand you have issues with the carriage on the HP Officejet 7612 printer. Since the motor is not a customer replaceable part, I'd suggest you contact the HP Support in your region for further assistance.
Hope this helps!

You failed to understand that I am an IT technician. I have worked on printers (as well as computers) in the past and will in the future. i just don't work on the cheap ones.
I would like to locate the service/repair manual for the Officejet 7612. But I will repair the printer with or without the manual.

I understand you're skilled enough to repair the printer, but the parts in the printer are not replaceable. This printer does not have any repair manual as such.
The user manual can be availed from here- HP Officejet 7110 Wide Format ePrinter User Guide
Thanks for understanding.

You got to be kidding me! .... A $600 - $700 printer and it is not repairable. Haha ... I have news for you. If is Man Made. Man can fix it. ... HP has 'authorized Service Centers" that state they can repair this model printer. Send it in and for a small assessment fee they will make a repair estimate. ... Before you say anything else, I do know some of the parts for this printer are no longer made. But these are available as take-offs from other printers. ... I'll buy an Epson printer before paying the shipping to a service center. An Epson wide format ( 13"x19") printer (currently less than $150 @ Office depot) since HP does not offer this size print/page size in a small office type printer for less than $500 - $600 now. ... I did find what is call the service manual for this model, but I'm not paying HP $60 for it. The manual cost, $40 for the carriage drive motor, other parts? I may as well but the Epson printer. Then fix the Hp 7720 later for a backup.
