Hi everyone,
I have a HP Officejet Pro 8740 printer, fax, scanner, etc.
I tried to update the the December 2018 newest Full driver but I have a
"Script error" grey box which pops up and I have 2 options "Yes" or the "No" buttons.
When I click on the "Yes" button, the process stops.
I reach the "3" in the installation process and then the "Script error" grey box pops up.
First, how DO I check to see if I already have the latest drivers installed....Where do you find the driver date?
Second, If I don't why is the December update for my 8740 Officejet Pro stopping at this "Script error" page?
Update:
Microsoft Windows Update doesn't say I need the Update.......could that mean I'm updated?
Thanks,
Stefos1

Welcome to HP support community.
Perform root level uninstalltion to remove all the printer related software's.
- In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
- Select your HP printer.

- In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
- Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
- Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
- Click on Drivers tab.
- Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click Remove at the bottom.
- Select OK.
- Remove all instances of the same.
- Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.

Hi Sandytechy 20,
I did everything you asked and it didn't work.
I reach step 3 of installation of the FULL driver and it runs the "Script error" grey box again.
I am running Windows 10 64 bit.
I have Basic Printer Driver running and the HP Smart program running also.

Create a new user account in the computer and then install the printer driver.
- Select Settings.
- Tap Accounts.
- Select Family & other users.
- Tap "Add someone else to this PC."
- Select "I don't have this person's sign-in information."
- Select "Add a user without a Microsoft account."
- Enter a username, type the account's password twice, enter a clue and select Next.
You can refer this link to create new account:- Click here
I hope that helps.

Hi Sandytechy20,
I already have the basic driver installed sir/ma'am.
The Built in driver ONLY address basic driver functions not the Full driver.
Apparently, the HP OfficeJet Pro 8740 Full driver is NOT COMPATIBLE with Windows 10.
If you can find any other solutions, please let me know otherwise please escalate this up the technical
ladder to where HP actually posts proper information on their website about this printer being Windows 10
compatible because currently it is not.
Thank you for everything you have done so far.

P.S. This Full driver issue has been ongoing for many months now actually without resolution.
