Hi @Rolle4,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you’ve changed the admin password for your HP Color Laser MFP 178nw and are now unable to access it, you may need to perform a factory reset to restore default settings. Here’s how you can reset it.

Power Cycle: Turn off the printer, wait a few seconds, and then turn it back on. This might sometimes resolve minor issues.

Factory Reset:

  • On the Printer’s Control Panel:
    1. From the home screen, touch the Setup button (gear icon).
    2. Select Service or Printer Maintenance.
    3. Look for an option like Restore Defaults or Factory Reset.
    4. Follow the on-screen prompts to confirm and complete the reset.

Using the Web Interface:

  • Access the Printer’s Web Interface:
    1. Find the printer’s IP address (usually available on the printer’s control panel under Network settings).
    2. Enter the IP address into a web browser to access the printer’s web interface.
    3. If you can log in with the current credentials or if it defaults to a guest account, navigate to Settings or Administration.
    4. Look for a Factory Reset or Restore Defaults option.

Manual Reset (if other methods fail):

  • If the above methods don't work or if you can't access the control panel:
    1. Turn off the printer.
    2. Press and hold the Cancel and Help buttons simultaneously.
    3. While holding the buttons, turn the printer back on.
    4. Continue holding the buttons until you see the printer’s display change or reset.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
