Hi @miltR,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like there’s a discrepancy between the HP Smart app and the Windows 11 system regarding the status of your HP Deskjet 4800 printer. Here’s a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and resolve this issue:
1. Verify Printer Connection
- Check Cables and Power: Ensure that all cables are securely connected and the printer is powered on. If it's a wireless printer, make sure it's connected to the same network as your PC.
- Printer Status: Verify on the printer’s control panel or display if it shows any errors or messages.
2. Set the Printer as Default
- Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners.
- Find your HP Deskjet 4800 in the list and click on it.
- Click Manage and then Set as default.
3. Check Printer Status
- In Printers & scanners, click on your HP Deskjet 4800 and then click Open queue.
- Check if there are any documents stuck in the queue. If so, you can try clearing them by selecting them and clicking Cancel.
4. Update or Reinstall Printer Driver
- Update Driver:
- Go to Device Manager (search for it in the Start menu).
- Find your printer under Printers or Imaging devices.
- Right-click and select Update driver. Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.
- Reinstall Driver:
- Go to Device Manager, right-click on your printer and select Uninstall device.
- Restart your computer. Windows should automatically reinstall the printer driver.
- Alternatively, download the latest driver from HP's official website for your Deskjet 4800 and install it manually.
5. Run Printer Troubleshooter
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters.
- Select Printer and then click Run the troubleshooter. Follow the on-screen instructions.
6. Check Printer Settings in HP Smart App
- Open the HP Smart app.
- Go to Printer Settings and ensure that the printer is set to be the default printer.
- Ensure that the app is detecting the printer correctly. If the app shows the printer as online but Windows does not, there might be a configuration issue with the Windows printer settings.
7. Check Network Configuration (for Wireless Printers)
- Network Connection: Ensure that the printer and PC are on the same Wi-Fi network.
- Print Test Page: Use the printer’s menu to print a network configuration page to verify the network settings.
8. Check for Windows Updates
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
- Check for updates and install any available updates that might include fixes for printer issues.
9. Restart Printer and Computer
- Power off both your printer and your PC.
- Wait for a few minutes, then power them back on and try printing again.
10. Check for Printer Firmware Update
- Sometimes firmware updates can resolve compatibility issues. Check HP’s support site for firmware updates for your Deskjet 4800.
11. Check Firewall/Security Software
- Sometimes, security software or firewall settings can block printer communication. Temporarily disable any security software to see if it resolves the issue, and then re-enable it.
12. Reset Printer Settings
- If nothing else works, consider resetting your printer to its factory settings. Refer to the printer’s manual for instructions on how to do this.
If these steps don’t resolve the issue, you may need to contact HP support for further assistance or check for any specific compatibility issues between Windows 11 and your HP Deskjet 4800.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
