My printer is low on ink. Since I normally use black ink I installed 1 new black ink cartridge. It still reads that the toner is low. Takes forever to print. I'd like to make sure it's completely out of ink before installing new cartridges. Any suggestions? do I have to install both black cartridges?

Hi @KarenNWHS,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to assist you.
I see that you are facing an issue with the toner showing low on ink on your Printer .
A) Please follow the steps below to perform a power drain.
1) Take out the cartridges
2) Unplug the power cord from the printer & wall.
3) Press and hold the power button down for 15 seconds and release the power button, wait for about 30 seconds.
4) Plug the power cord back into the printer and wall, ensure the printer is plugged into the wall & not into a surge protector.
5) Insert the cartridges back into the printer.
Remove the cartridges > Unplug the power cord > Wait for 30 seconds > Plug the power cord back in > Insert the cartridges
B) Kindly refer to the steps on this link to update the printer firmware and let me know if that resolves the issue.
C) If the issue still persists, goahead and replace the toner to resume printing.

Hello Irwin,
So it's a mystery. Printer is working now. I think I've learned my lesson. Buy HP cartridges. Having to take the chip out and install in the new cartridge is a real pain just to save a few bucks. I suspect it's why things aren't reading right. I will still go through this process and see if that clears up the low toner reading. All the other toner levels are reading low, I'm just trying to get the most mileage out of the original cartridges. Thanks!
