Does this new driver give me anything BETTER i the repackaging (see description and "fixes" came with update below) or do I simply LOSE OCR capability?

The full solution software includes everything you need to install and use your HP printer. This collection of software includes the complete set of drivers, installer and optional software.

Welcome to the HP User Community.

I would guess:

Yes - it is possible that you'd lose the OCR installed if you uninstall your current printer software > Restart > Install the new package.

What?

The old OCR software embedded in this printer software installation package might be a problem (security?)

OR (perhaps more likely)

The OCR software that was embedded in the previous package might be so badly outdated that leaving it in a package intended for installing on (for Example, Windows 11) might break the installation (for example, if the software is installed on Windows 11).

Personal opinion,
If your printer software works as installed,
If you are not installing the package on a Windows 11 machine,
(then) don't install the new package.

What if?
What if you do not (for any reason) have a copy of the previously release version of the package
What if you must download-save-install the version that does not include OCR?
What if you lose the OCR software?
OCR software is available - there are a multitude of articles to help you find what you need.
