HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

Hi,

I have an HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 inkjet printer, and am using Photoshop 2021. I've created a template for an A5 greetings card and set the specs for both PS and the printer to A5. However, the main image which should be on the right hand side of the card prints over the centre. I've tried everything to correct it, but can't.

If anyone has any knowledge as to what I may be doing wrong, I'd appreciate knowing.

Many thanks.

Hi @RonMcGeary,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like the image positioning issue you're experiencing could be caused by several factors. Here are a few things you can check and adjust to resolve the printing alignment issue.

Paper Size Settings in Photoshop:

  • Ensure that your Photoshop document is set to A5 (148 x 210 mm) in both dimensions. Double-check that the canvas size and resolution are set correctly. Go to Image > Image Size and confirm the A5 dimensions are correctly entered.

Printer Settings:

  • Check that the printer is set to print on A5 paper size. Go to File > Print, and in the print settings, ensure that the paper size is selected as A5. Sometimes, the printer might default to another size, which can cause misalignment.
  • Ensure you're using the correct paper type (e.g., A5 card stock) in the printer settings.

Layout Settings:

  • Verify that the layout in Photoshop aligns the image to the correct side. You may need to manually adjust the placement of the image within your template.
  • If you're working with a folding card, ensure the image is on the right side (for a front-facing print). You may need to check that you have the correct orientation (portrait or landscape) set for your template and printing.

Printer Driver or Software:

  • Sometimes, the printer driver software can override settings from Photoshop. Ensure that the printer driver isn't scaling or shifting the image. In the Print Settings, make sure "Scale to Fit" or any automatic scaling options are turned off.

Margins and Bleed Settings:

  • Check for any added margins or bleed areas in Photoshop that could affect the image's placement. You may need to adjust the margins in Photoshop or in the printer settings.

Test Print:

  • Before printing your final version, try printing a small test version (e.g., a single side) to verify the alignment of your image on the A5 card.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi Alden,

Many thanks for your reply.

I have already tried all the helpful suggestions you've made, but unfortunately nothing has changed.

PS is set up to print A5print specs are set to A5, on plain paper, thick. The image in the PS Print Settings is correct as far as I can see - the image is in the correct position on the right hand side.  The printer has been set to A5 paper size, plain paper, thick. I've checked with the HP website and the printer driver is up to date.

I can't see a "scale to fit" option anywhere so can't check that. I wish there was an option here to show you a screen shot so you could actually see what I'm looking at.

It seems that no matter what I do, the image will not print in the correct place.

Again, thank you for taking the time to reply.

Hi Alden,

I found the "scale to fit" option under "position and size" in print settings (I've never checked that area before) but it wasn't selected. "Center" is selected and I turned it off,  but the image didn't move and it made no difference to the position of it when I printed.

I played around with the numbers in "Scale" but again, nothing changed.

Thanks.
