@BK234, Hello and welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.
I understand your HP LaserJet MFP M234sdwe is making incessant beeping sounds, which can be quite frustrating. Let's work together to resolve this!
Beeping from your printer usually indicates an error condition or user attention alert. Here's what you can do:
Check the Control Panel for Error Codes
Look at the printer’s control panel. If you see an “Er” followed by a number (e.g., Er/01, Er/07), it indicates a specific issue.
You can find a full list of error codes and their meanings here:

Common Causes of Beeping
Here are some frequent culprits:
- Paper Jam – Check all paper paths and trays.
- Empty Paper Tray – Load paper into the input tray.
- Cartridge Door Open – Ensure the toner access door is fully closed.
- Toner Cartridge Not Installed Properly – Remove and reseat the toner cartridge.
Power Cycle the Printer
Sometimes a simple restart can help:
- Turn off the printer.
- Unplug it from the power source.
- Wait for 30 seconds.
- Plug it back in and turn it on.
Update Firmware (Optional but Recommended)
Outdated firmware can sometimes cause unexpected behavior. You can check for updates via the HP Smart App or from the HP Software & Drivers page.
I hope the information shared has been useful and resolves your concern.
Wishing you a smooth and hassle-free experience ahead!

Sorry to butt in but the most common cause we find is when a printer has been plugged into a UPS device and overloading it. Or into a circuit with a UPS when the draw on the circuit approaches the maximum it can support. Even small printers the size of yours can pull almost 10 amps on startup, enough to trigger the protection circuits in the UPS.
For clarification, a UPS is any type of battery back up used to protect your computer from power failures.
