Hi @JA1689,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you’re having trouble getting the print carriage to center on your HP Smart Tank 5106 while installing printheads, try these steps.

  • Power on the Printer: Make sure the printer is on. If it's in sleep mode, press the power button to wake it.
  • Open the Front Access Door: Opening this door typically prompts the print carriage to move to the center. Wait a few moments to see if it moves automatically.
  • Restart the Printer: Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source. Wait for about a minute, then plug it back in and turn it on. After it restarts, open the access door again to see if the carriage moves to the center.
  • Remove Any Obstructions: Ensure there is no packing material, tape, or obstructions inside the printer that could prevent the print carriage from moving.
  • Use HP Smart App for Assistance: If you haven't already, open the HP Smart app on a connected device. Sometimes the app provides on-screen guidance for setup issues, including printhead installation.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
