I am attempting to join the Instant ink option again as it was cancelled earlier this year however I get stuck during the process when it says that you can print a code. I can’t do this as anlth I have fresh HP cartridges that were supplied against the old agreement the printer will not accept the cartridges.
And is there that is stopping me processing the new agreement.
Any advice as this is driving me mad.

Hi @Smudger2023,
Welcome to the HP Support Community
I understand that you're having trouble setting up your HP ENVY 5546 All-In-One Printer with the Instant Ink option due to issues with cartridge recognition. Here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue:
Ensure Correct Cartridges:
- Make sure you are using the correct HP Instant Ink cartridges for your printer. The cartridges provided for the Instant Ink program may have specific codes or identifiers.
Check Cartridge Installation:
- Remove the cartridges and double-check that they are properly inserted into the printer. Sometimes, a cartridge may not be fully seated or properly aligned.
Update Firmware:
- Ensure that your printer's firmware is up to date. You can usually update the firmware through the printer's settings or by visiting the HP support website for your specific printer model.
Restart Printer:
- Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for a few minutes, and then plug it back in. Power it on and check if the cartridges are recognized.
Clean Contacts:
- Clean the electrical contacts on the cartridges and inside the printer. Use a lint-free cloth and be gentle to avoid damage.
Reset the Printer:
- Refer to your printer's manual for instructions on how to perform a factory reset. This can sometimes resolve issues with cartridge recognition.
Reinstall Cartridges:
- Try reinstalling the cartridges. Remove them, turn off the printer, turn it back on, and then reinsert the cartridges.
Check Instant Ink Account Online:
- Log in to your HP Instant Ink account online and verify that your printer is correctly registered and associated with the correct account.
