Using an extension cord with your HP DeskJet 2820e printer is generally safe if you follow some important guidelines:
 

Temporary Use: Extension cords are designed for temporary use. It's better to use a permanent solution like a power strip with surge protection if you need a longer-term setup.
Cord Rating: Ensure the extension cord's rating matches or exceeds the power requirements of your printer. The DeskJet 2820e doesn't consume a lot of power, but it's still important to check.
Quality and Condition: Use a high-quality, undamaged extension cord. Inspect it regularly for any signs of wear or damage.
Avoid Overloading: Don't plug multiple high-power devices into the same extension cord to avoid overloading it.
