Received boxed warning on Mac desktop with Sequoia 15.3...Legacy System Extension...Existing software on your system loaded a software extension signed by "Legacy Developer: Hp" which will be incompatible with a future version of MacOS. Contact the developer for support.

Called a Sponsored number that I thought was Hp customer support, but turned out to be third party.

I was informed that no automatic updates were being downloaded to my computer!

What should be my next step?

It sounds like you're dealing with a legacy HP printer driver issue on macOS Sequoia 15.3. Here’s what you should do next:

 

1. Verify HP’s Official Support Options

2. Check for HP Easy Start

  • HP provides HP Easy Start, an official tool that installs the latest drivers for macOS.
  • Download it from here.
  • If HP Easy Start does not detect your printer, macOS may have built-in AirPrint support.

3. Remove the Old HP Software

Since macOS warns about "Legacy System Extension," you may need to uninstall outdated HP software:

  • Open Finder > Applications
  • Look for any HP-related software and move it to the Trash
  • Restart your Mac

4. Use AirPrint (Mac’s Built-in Driver)

If HP has no updated drivers for your model, use AirPrint:

  • Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners
  • Select your HP printer and click Remove (-)
  • Click Add (+) > Select Printer
  • Under "Use," choose AirPrint (instead of the HP driver)

5. Check System Preferences for Updates

  • Go to System Settings > General > Software Update
  • Ensure that macOS and printer drivers are updated.

6. Enable Automatic Updates for HP Software

  • Go to System Settings > Software Update
  • Check for any pending updates related to HP.
