HP LaserJet MFP M140w Printer

It worked for about 1 month, but now when I try to print, the mac adds the document to the print que for this printer, says its printing, then deletes the document from the queue without it actually printing and without an error of any sort. Printer is online because I can scan from it and see supply levels.

The printer itself always shows the exclamation mark.

On the mac, I can open the scanner, and I can get the ink supply level (90%).

I can also open the web based printer interface, but as I dont know what HP use as the username and password, I can only access the "device status" page.

The device status page says this:

"Printer setup incomplete. Your HP+ printer must be set up using the HP Smart app. Visit 123.hp.com to download the app and complete the guided setup. Any pages you have printed were intended for setup and have been exhausted. If you completed setup, turn your printer off for at least a minute, then turn it back on. Wait a few minutes to let your printer status refresh and try to print again. Visit hp.com/plus-support for additional setup help."

Im guessing that HP have bricked the printer, because I refuse to send information to HP, and I certainly dont want, and will never want HP+. I just want to print pages with cartridges I purchase, and I print so few pages, a cartridge lasts 2 years.

Any idea how to get the printer to print again?  If HP have blocked printing and are holding me to ransom for some monthly fee to use the printer and Ink I purchased, then I will send the printer back.  What a scam.

The Mac printer dialog shows no errors,
