I see many people having this same issue, but none seem to get a decent reply from HP. My printer was working fine until an hour ago. It's now in 'an error state'. I have removed all the software, restarted and reinstalled, tried the HP Doctor software, but it still doesn't work. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hello @River0745,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
The HP software must be completely uninstalled and removed of the system.
First download only this complete package: "HP ENVY 5000 All-in-One Print and Scan Driver and Accessories ",
File name: EN5000_Full_WebPack_44.4.2679.exe (133.0 MB)
Then proceed as follows:
Check the system for
- TuneUp`s
- Optimization Tools
- Cleanup Tools
disable them, better uninstall them. Next...
- Disconnect printer/scanner from computer- Disable WLAN and/or remove the USB or LAN cable.- Do not switch off the printer >> unplug the power cord from the socket!
- right-click Start, search for "control panel" and open "Programs and Features"
uninstall all HP printer software > via "Programs and Features" - right-click Start, search for "control panel" and open "Devices and Printers"
In the "Devices and Printers" window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.” - Restart the PC
- Close all programs
- Change File-Explorer-Settings:View > Options > "Change folder and search options" > Tab "View"
- enable > Show hidden files, folders and drives
- uncheck > Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)
- search for "HP [printer name]" and delete all this folders
- Empty the TEMP folders
A) C:\Users\[Your user account]\AppData\Local\Temp\
B) C:\Windows\Temp\ system files cannot be deleted! - Reconnect the printer to the power supply and switch it on (if this does not happen automatically)
- Please note: WLAN has to be deactivated!
- Restart the PC
- Close all programs
- Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo > in folder Downloads click on the EXE, see above.
Via USB, means wait until the installation asks to connect the printer/scanner.
Document error messages, even better is a screenshot and upload here.
The network configuration or the type of connection can be changed later.
Note:
Change the File Explorer settings again -
- enable > Don`t show hidden files, folders or drives
- click button > Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)
- OK
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Hi there. Thanks, but it didn't help. I followed it exactly, step by step but the printer still won't communicate with the PC. On the printer's set up, it just keeps trying (green bar moving from left to right) 'Installing Network Device' then nothing.

You has a problem with your network!
try again without network, only USB.
we can change to network later!

@River0745 wrote:... I really need wireless - do you know how that can be made possible?
It's pretty simple. First watch the video, here "Converting an HP Printer from a USB to a Wireless Connection in Windows ".
And then read this important information here "Connecting an HP Printer Using Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) ".
If you need more help with WiFi, read here How to > Wireless, Networking & Internet > Wireless Connections & Networking.
One more note: The printer should not be placed too far from the router or computer.
Good luck.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
