HP LaserJet 1022nw
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I bought a new computer, a Dell 5820 and new OS, Windows 10 for Workstation and moved into it this week. I setup the printer, a Laserjet 1022nw and all seemed well. But when I go to print a single copy of a document, it keeps printing until all the paper is gone.

I have setup via network. It worked for years on my Dell T3600 running Win 10 Pro. I'm thinking it' s my OS.

I tried plugging in the printer via USB and it did the same thing. I went to the IP address of the printer and pulled up the web interface but it's very limited in settings. Maybe I'll try a hard reset and set it up again.

Any help would be appreciated.  I like the printer and it's cheap to run. I have lots of toner for it.

Hello,

The control panel of your printer is as follows:

LaserJet 1022 Printer Series - Control Panel

You will need to follow the instructions below to solve this issue:

  1. Turn the printer off.
  2. Press and hold down the Go (8) and the Cancel (7) buttons.
  3. Hold the buttons when you turn on the printer.
  4. When the Attention (11), Go (9) and Ready (10) lights come on (flashing), release the Go and Cancel buttons.
NOTE: It takes about 60 seconds before initialization process begins.
  5. The initialization starts.
  6. When the initialization completes, the printer enters the generic printer mode.
  7. Uninstall and reinstall the printer.

Don't hesitate to contact us in case of need.

Best regards,

I gave that a go.

When I print the first test page, it works fine. It prints a single page. But when I print another test page, the printer just keeps on rolling or printing. The document is still in the print queue as well, so I have to delete it. On the first print, Windows says "Error Printing" but prints anyways, just 1 page or copy of the document.  The 2nd time, no error message but prints until all the paper is gone.

It's like the printer is not talking back to my computer saying that the print job is complete, and the print job is finished.

I have another printer, a Zebra ZD500 Thermal transfer that is networked or prints via IP, and it operates just fine. so that rules out windows firewall. I'll look at the config files

It must be the print processor

Old machine uses Type 4, 10.0.171119.1 - winprint - from the DriverStore - Data format RAW

New machines uses Type 3 2012.918.1.57980 - HP1020PrintProc from Spool/Drivers - Data Format IMF

This seems like Deja Vu, like it happened before in the past.

Hello and thanks for your return,

In order to palliate this incident, try the following solution:

  1. On the keyboard, press the Windows and R keys simultaneously. The Run window opens.
  2. Type control printer, then press Enter. The Devices and Printers window opens.
  3. Right-click the printer icon, then click Printer properties. The Properties window opens.
  4. Click the Advanced tab, then click the Print Processor... button.
  5. Select winprint as the Print processor, and select RAW [FF auto] as the Default data type.

  6. Click OK, then Apply, and then OK.
  7. Try to print.

I tried that yesterday, but gave it another go just now.

Chose Winprint and Raw, yesterday, today made your choices ... Got a bytestream ZIMP= XXXX

Went back to HP1020PrintProc and IMF, got a properly encoded page with graphic, but it still just kept printing.

When I watch the behavior of my old machine with Win 10 Pro, as Soon as the job in the queue hits the printer, the spooler removes the job from the queue. Like the printer sends back a ACK signal saying the payload was received intact.

But on the new machine, the printer must be sending back the same ACK flag, but the spooler can't read it, so the same payload keeps getting sent again to the printer.

I think this an issue with Microsoft and printing security. Keep in mind I'm running Win10 Pro for workstatons. Perhaps this printer is not capable of sending back the correct ACK signal format. Something that may extend to Win11 as well.

The rest of my printers work fine over TCPIP, 2 others which is a Zebra ZD620 and Lexmark MC3224 Color. That's all I can think of.

Thanks for your return,

In order to solve this problem, configure a new port as follows:

  1. Type control printers, then press Enter. The Devices and Printers window opens.
  2. Right-click on your printer icon, then click on Printer properties, click on the Ports tab, and click on Add Port....
  3. Select Standard TCP/IP Port and click New Port....
  4. Click Next, then enter the printer's IP address (e.g. 192.168.1.97) in the Printer Name or IP Address field and click Next.
  5. Once the port is added, click Finish and close all windows.
  6. Try to print.

I remain at your disposal in case of need.

I've already done that 15 times. The printer does the same thing whether it's USB or TCPIP.
