I had to do a recent uninstall and install of my HP Officejet J4580, P/N CB780A, which would not properly install in HP Solution Center. Once, I was able to complete that task, and both printers displayed in HP Solution Center with an OK status, is when the problem of "computer unable to establish 2 way communication with the device (both printers) occurred and I was not able to print. When I try to print a document, the printer spool immediately show 1 document pending, then quickly shows 0 document pending and nothing prints. Also, while in HP Solution Center, I get the same message "computer unable.....". The same problem occurred for my HP Officejet J4680, P/N CB053A. Both printers were printing and connected before the uninstall and install of my J4580.
When installing the J4580, I retrieved the driver software from HP website after searching and receiving the download for the HP Officejet J4580 all-in-one full featured software. I am connected via LAN. I appreciate any constructive feedback.
Thank you, RVG70

Thank you for joining HP Forums.
I'll be glad to help you 🙂
As I understand the computer is unable to establish a 2-way communication with the 2 HP printers,
No worries, as I'll be glad to help you, that said, I'll need a few more details to dissect your concern & provide an accurate solution:
Have you attempted to delete all the drivers from root level and retry installation?
As you've not mentioned the same on your post, I recommend we start with the root level reinstallation of drivers:
1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features
2.) Select your HP Printer
3.) Select Uninstall
4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers
5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose `Delete' or `Remove Device'
6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.
7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between "printui.exe" and "/s")
8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab
9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom
10.) Select Ok
11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows
12.) Close Devices and Printers
Then, Click here to access the HP website, find the drivers compatible with your windows and install it.
Install the drivers for the 1st printer, restart the computer when done and then check if it works,
If it does, then install the 2nd printer via the full feature software for both printers.
Let me know how that pans out
I hope you have a good day ahead,
And Feel free to ask any other queries as well,
Considering, this forum has some of the best people in the world available and ready to help.

Thank you for your solution, Riddle_Decipher. It solved my printing problem for both printers.
I noticed that now I have two other issues, since the install of the 2 HP officejet printers (J4580 & J6480 All in ones).
1. While installing the J4580, it did not recognize a physical connection, as the J6480 did. Thus, the J6480 is in the Solutions Center and the J4580 is not. A shortcut was left to add a device for the J4580, but it still does not recognize the physical connection. (I checked all the connections). I'd like to resolve this issue.
2. I noticed that within the Solutions Center, the J6480, under settings and using the printer toolbox, under Device services, doesn't allow me to use them, giving the error "The computer is unable to establish two-way communication with the device". These services allow me to do 5 things, such as clean the cartriage, etc. This is the second issue I'd like to resolve.
Again, I appreciate your help in resolving my printing issue. If you can enlighten me on these other 2 issues, my appreciation to you will be tripled.
Thank you and I hope you have a great day.

Thank you for replying with this detailed response 😉
I appreciate your time and efforts,
If you can’t scan or Print using the HP Software, use one of the following methods to scan the computer in Windows.
HP Scan and Capture app (Windows 8, 8.1, and 10 only): Use this free app available from the Microsoft Store to scan photos or documents using your printer or the camera on your computer.
Go to Installing and Using HP Scan and Capture App (Windows 10) for more information and to see if your printer is supported.
Windows Scan app (Windows 10 only): Use this pre-installed app to scan from most HP all-in-one printers.
Search Windows for Scan and click the Scan app
in the list of results.
Also, HP provides a free tool called HP Print and Scan Doctor to diagnose and resolve printing and scanning problems. Download and run HP Print and Scan Doctor to quickly and automatically perform several troubleshooting tasks known to resolve this issue. When this link is clicked, HP Print and Scan Doctor is downloaded using your Internet browser's download capabilities.
Keep me posted,
