Product: hp officejet pro 8620
Operating System: macOS 10.14 Mojave

My printer keeps setting the number of pages to print at 6 every time i start a new print run. I change it to one, but then when i open a new program or start a different print job it defaults to 6. And I will get charged for more copies that I want or need. I have to keep stopping the run.

Check the defaults for the print driver. It sounds like the default is set to 6. If you change for a print job and then start another application it will apply the system default of 6. Changing the number for one job only changes the driver for that program until you close it and reopen it.
