HP Envy 4527
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My Samsung R510 laptop updated to Win10.  I installed HP Envy 4527 printer on it. If installed as a USB connected printer, then things work fine. But when installed as a network printer, the Colour or Grayscale dialogue (as shown in pic & circled in red) does not appear. I can only print in B&W. Therewas never an issue on Win7.

Someone suggested

"Go to devices and printers and right click under printer properties then go to device settings and go almost all the way down to device type an change to color and save the change then go to printer preferences and in the color tab make sure the option print in grayscale its no checked"

No option to change to colour under device type.

Another suggestion was

"1. Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers

2. Right click your printer and click "Set as default printer.

3. When a window pops just click "Ok."

4. Under Devices and Printers, right click your printer and the "Set as default printer" must now be automatically checked.

5. Check the Printing Preferences  > Paper/Quality  tab again (Devices and Printer > right-click your printer > Printing Preferences > Paper/Quality tab) and the Color option for B/W and Colored printing should now be there."

This also does not work.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is completely frustrating & I have wasted days trying to find a solution.

Hi @kutraj

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you with the printing issue.

Please try adding the printer using the IP address -

1.) Select “Start” and type “printers” in the search box.

2.) Choose “Printers & scanners“.

3.) Select “Add a printer or scanner“.

4.) Wait for the “The printer that I want isn’t listed” option to appear, then select it.

5.) Select “Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname” , then select “Next“.

6.) Select “TCP/IP Device” in the “Device type” list.

7.) Type the hostname or the IP address of the printer. Select “Next“. To find the IP address of the printer, touch the Wi-Fi icon on the printer's control panel.

8.) Windows should find the printer if the printer is on and configured correctly. You may have to specify more information. If prompted, Select the type of network adapter installed in the printer in the “Device Type” drop-down list. You can also click “Custom” to specify custom settings for the network printer. Select “Next“.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Tks a lot  @asmita6658 👍👌

The solution worked well & now the Printing Preferences of new printer is giving the option to select Colour or Grayscale.
