After completing a firmware update I keep getting a "Non-HP Chip Detected" message and cannot proceed with anything. I have cleaned everything and the new cartridge is a new HP cartridge.

Hi @k9luvr

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

The "Non-HP Chip Detected" message after a firmware update can be frustrating, especially when you're using a genuine HP cartridge.

Here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

1. Verify Cartridge Authenticity

  • Double-check that the cartridge is a genuine HP product. Look for the HP logo and ensure it was purchased from a trusted source.

2. Disable Cartridge Protection

  • Access the printer's Embedded Web Server (EWS):
    • Print a Network Configuration Page from the printer to find its IP address.
    • Enter the IP address into a web browser to open the EWS.
  • Navigate to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Cartridge Protection and disable the feature.

3. Reset the Printer

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on. This can clear temporary glitches.

4. Update Firmware

  • Visit the HP Support website to check for firmware updates. Sometimes, newer firmware versions can cause compatibility issues.

5. Clean the Cartridge Contacts

  • Remove the cartridge and gently clean the gold-colored contacts with a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water. Allow them to dry completely before reinserting.
