Hi @pop973,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
Thanks for reaching out. If your HP ENVY 4520 All-in-One Printer is not printing Microsoft Word documents on Windows 11, but otherwise appears to work, it’s likely a software communication issue between Word, the printer driver, or Windows itself. Here’s how to fix it:
1. Confirm the printer works outside of Word
- Try printing a PDF, Notepad, or Printer Test Page:
- Press Win + R → type control printers → right-click your printer → choose Printer Properties → Print a Test Page.
- If this works, the issue is Word-specific.
2. Update your printer driver
- Download the latest full-feature driver for the ENVY 4520 from HP's website:
- Fully uninstall the old printer software first:
- Go to Settings > Apps > Installed Apps → Uninstall anything HP-related
- Then reboot and install the latest version from HP
3. Run Word in safe mode
- Hold Ctrl and open Word → This starts it in Safe Mode
- Try printing again. If it works:
- You likely have a corrupt add-in or normal template (Normal.dotm)
To reset Word’s normal template:
- Press Win + R → type: %appdata%\Microsoft\Templates → delete or rename Normal.dotm
4. Set the HP printer as the default
- Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners
- Click your HP printer > Select Set as default
5. Repair Office
- Go to Settings > Apps > Installed Apps
- Find Microsoft Office, click Modify
- Choose Quick Repair (try Online Repair if that fails)
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
