Printer shuts down for no reason. Tried HP fixes.
Sometimes I switch on and after self checking printer shuts down. Sometimes happens after using printer for sometime.

Welcome to the HP support community.
I understand that your printer is switching off, I am glad to assist you.
Did you try to update the printer firmware?
If not, here are the steps:- Click here
And if the issue still persists, you might have to perform a semi-full reset on the printer.
The reset instructions are specific for your printer and performing those steps on a different printer may brick the device.
I am sending you a private message with the steps to reset the printer. Please check the mailbox icon at the top-right corner of this screen.
I hope this helps resolve this issue completely.
To thank me for my efforts to help you, please mark my post as an accepted solution so that it benefits several others.
Cheers.

Thanks the firmware is up to date.
I have tried the reset already and it did not work.
It's almost 3 months since I bought this model but the 2 units I have received do not work. The first was a complete failure, the second one just has the power off issue. What a shambles HP are!

@MichaelHUK
I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).
If you are unfamiliar with how the Community's private message capability works, you can learn about that here.
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Community.
Cheers.
