HP OfficeJet Pro 9015e All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Printer is new and all programs installed, uninstalled, reinstalled, and both computer and printer rebooted, but printer still does not recognize any of 3 different card readers (2 are new).  the card is good and it works in the camera.  Device Manager brings up "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers", but there's no option to uninstall.

The front USB port has nothing to do with the drivers installed, so you can stop installing and uninstalling , that will not fix the problem. When you insert the card reader does the print beep to acknowledge you have connected a device? If not  then it is possible that the port on this printer will not work with media card readers. Have you tried a USB memory stick with a compatible file on it to see if that works?

Hi @Chatoyaboy,

Welcome to the HP Support Community

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP OfficeJet Pro 9015e All-In-One Printer. Not to worry I will help you to get a resolution to resolve the issue.

Let's perform a power drain:

  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Remove USB cable, if present.
  • Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
  • Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord (This is important) and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
  • Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle

Update the printer firmware

  • Click here to download and install the latest printer firmware from your product

Can you please clarify, are you installing a card reader on your computer or attempting to attach a card reader to the printer itself?

Was gone for a couple oif days, but thanks for the reply.  Have followed all steps exactly, but when trying to install the new HP Smart software after disconnecting VPN I get this message: "Printer status unknown".  But computer is on wireless network and connected to the internet.

Ran HP Network Diagnostics check, and Connection Status reads "No issues found with the connection".

Print and Scan Doctor generates "Printer offline" and Printer unknown".  Hitting Uninstall and Reinstall takes me to the Microsoft Store, which gets "Printer offline".

Am plugging a new card reader (plus the old one and a second new one) into the USB port on the printer itself, The card is fully operational in the camera.

No beep at all when the reader is inserted.  I've never used a memory stick, so can't try that.  But would bet you're correct about the printer not working with a card reader.  Staples assured me this printer's USB port would accept one, because that was an important feature I needed.  So, will go talk to them about how to resolve things with a return or exchange for something that works.  Thanks for your time and advice!

Staples had assured me this printer's USB port would accept a reader but it seems that's not the case, so will need to go have atlk about how to resolve with a return or exchange for something that works.  Thanks for your time and advice!

I did test an IO Gear brand card reader on an HP Enterprise MFP and it read is MicroSD card just fine. Cod be a DOA unit, it happens.
