Officejet 3834
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have an Officejet 3834, and I work with a HP laptop with Windows 10 64 bit, version 21H1, build 19042.1288.

I've installed all the recommended drivers and softwares (Officejet 3830 series, HP Smart).

The printer appears to be online and ready. It does scan, but it doesn't print.

When I try to print something, nothing happens and the document never appears, not even for an instant, in the print queue. If I run the HP Print and Scan Doctor, it doesn't print the first test page, but it does print the internal test page, and then it states that "there is a problem with the software that cannot be solved with this tool. Remove the software, and download and install the most recent version of the software". I've done all these, but the problem persists.

The same printer works fine on a different pc (older, with Windows 10) on which it had been previously installed. On my present and recent laptop, I initially had Windows 11 but then I switched to Windows 10, which I prefer. I had the 20H2 version, and at first the printer worked, I was able to scan AND print. Then, a few days later, it stopped printing. I then upgraded to the Windows 10 version 21H1, but it made no difference.

Besides removing and reinstalling printer (both wireless and USB), softwares and drivers several timeso and keeping Windows updated, I've also tried disabling the Defender firewall, and I made sure that all the ports listed here https://support.hp.com/it-it/product/hp-officejet-3830-all-in-one-printer-series/7172321/model/77239... were enabled. It made no difference.

I also tried the steps suggested here https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-Setup-Software-Drivers/HP3830-not-printing-in-windows-10/td-p/... (except for creating a new administrator account), but it didn't work.

Any suggestion on what I should do?

Welcome to the HP support community.

I understand that your printer is not printing and you have tried all the steps to fix the issue, I am glad to assist you.

Since you have tried all the troubleshooting steps, this might require remote access to the computer to fix the issue.

I request you to talk to HP support.

They might have multiple options to help you with this.

  1. Click on this link - https://support.hp.com/us-en/contact-hp?openCLC=true
  2. Select the country.
  3. Enter the serial of your device.
  4. Select the country from the drop-down.
  5. Click on "Show Options".
  6. Fill the web-form. A case number and phone number will now populate for you.

Keep me posted.

To thank me for my efforts to help you, please mark my post as an accepted solution so that it benefits several others.

Thank you for your reply. When I follow your link and submit the country (Italy) and the serial number, the only available support option I get is the HP Support Community. I see in the forum that other costumers had the same issue (https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-Setup-Software-Drivers/OfficeJet-Pro-8620-won-t-print/m-p/8212...), and it appears to be a problem caused by having firstly upgraded to windows 11 and than reverted to windows 10. I hope HP will address this issue.

I am having same problem with my  HP728F54 - HP OfficeJet 3830 series.

Installed Windows 11, did not like, used Windows option to Recover back to  Windows 10.  Print was OK for few days and  then will not let me print.

Have run  all diagnostic tools and  HP Printer / Scan tool. Deleted everything and reinstalled, even deleted drivers, etc...  Can print internal test page, but nothing else.

Can print from phone so know printer on network alright.

There is discussion on Microsoft forum about problem, no easy solution given. .
