I am following up on https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-Setup-Software-Drivers/What-is-current-Firmware-for-P1102W-Pri.... I have downloaded (at least twice) LJP1100_P1560_P1600_FW_Upgrade_20201023.dmg. When I open the dmg, I find HP Firmware Update Utility. When I try to open the Utility, I get a dialog box stating that Apple cannot check it for malicious software. The dialog box tells me that the software needs to be updated. Contact the developer for more information.
I do not even know if I need to update the firmware. I have tried reinstalling the latest drivers, but my Mac's Printers & Scanners preference does not see the P1102w as a printer than I can add.
Do I need to update the firmware? If so, how?

Hi,
Try following the Resolution section below, I believe this should help, the issue is likely with the driver on your Mac and not with your printer firmware:

I went into the Printer & Scanner Preference and reset the printing system. I then had to add back in the main printer and my own scanner. But my own P1102w does not appear on the network as a printer that may be added to the Preference.

I ran HP Smart again. I ran it three or four times. The first few times it reported that it could not find the P1102w. This is despite the fact that I have the printer firmly connected to one of the USB ports on the Mac. The last time I ran HP Smart, it crashed.

The story is getting stranger as it goes along. I never could open the firmware updater. My Mac continues to insist that it is malicious software.
This morning I came here to the website to download--again--any software I could find. But the HP webpages were down this morning.
I disconnected the P1102w from the Mac. Many hours later, at the end of the day, I reconnected the USB cable to the Mac. And this time the P1102w appeared in the list of printers that I could add in Printer & Scanner Preference. I did, and now the P1102w is working normally.
