OfficeJet Pro 8610
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

If I scan a document on the glass of my 8610, the PDF that I create can print on my Win 10 computer, or any other machine INCLUDING Macs and Ubuntu (Linux) "correctly".

If I use the 8610's ADF to create a multi-page PDF, the document is visible on-screen of ANY Ubuntu box, Mac or Windows PC(s).

HOWEVER, if ANY computer tries to print the PDF to ANY printer, the page is BLANK.

Based on 3 different operating systems getting the result (blank piece of printed paper), it sounds like the 8610's PDF creation firmware needs some tweaking, please.

Alright, I'm seeing that you are using the printer's web scan rather than using scanning software. There are two ways to scan that should work a little better than using web scan: Using the HP Scan software or using Scan to Email.

To install and use HP Scan (for Windows 10):

Download and install the latest drivers by clicking on this link.

When you wish to scan click on the icon on your Desktop with a name similar to "Officejet Pro 8610". If you click on the option under scan your PC should open HP Scan.

To install and use HP Scan (for Mac):

Download and install the latest drivers by clicking on this link.

When you wish to scan, open the Applications folder, Hewlett-Packard, and in this folder open HP Scan (or Scan To).

To Setup Scan to Email:

  1. On the printer click on the web services icon in the bottom left corner of the display.
  2. If you see Setup, click on Setup and then Accept/Yes.
  3. After the printer prints out a web services page, click on Apps and then Scan to Email.

Please let me know the results after following the above. If you are able to scan, please click on Accept Solution. If you appreciate my help, please click on the thumbs up icon. Both icons are below this post.

Hey @Budlyapi,

Welcome to the HP Support Forums!

I understand that you are having some issues with scanning multi-page documents from your Officejet 8610 e-All-in-One Printers to some Windows PCs or Macs. I can help you with that, however I am going to need some clarification first. Please let me know:

  • If you are scanning the multi-page documents from the printer's front panel or HP Scan.
  • If you experience the same issues when scanning from the printer's front panel or HP Scan.
  • The number of pages being scanned in these multi-page documents.
  • If the document is being saved on the Windows PC or Mac and then opened before being printed.

Please note that I am unable to provide any assistance with your Linux systems. Once I know the above I will be better able to assist you.

Doc -

Thanx for the help so promptly.

  • If you are scanning the multi-page documents from the printer's front panel or HP Scan.

HP Scan from Firefox

  • If you experience the same issues when scanning from the printer's front panel or HP Scan.

Have only done from browser - allows for "pulling" scanned doc to computer vs panel where it would be a "push" to a computer

  • The number of pages being scanned in these multi-page documents.

Have tried 2 and 3 pages. Single pages on glass work fine.

  • If the document is being saved on the Windows PC or Mac and then opened before being printed.

Yes, doc is saved from inside Acrobat Reader. File can be found in folder structure. File can be closed and re-opened from folder and read on screen using Acrobat Reader. From inside Reader. . . File >> Print . . . blank page.

Hope that helps.

Thanx for the follow-up.

The link you sent to "HP Scans" seems to be the installer for "HP Solution Center".

Which works VERY nicely via USB, but not wirelessly.

So it seems that the 8610 has features which work in "specific" ways (ie: ADF scan via USB connection), but not others (ie: ADF scan via wireless) and no pop-up / notification / call-it-what-you-want to tell the end-user, "This feature only works via USB".

So the more accurate statement that I should have made is. . .

PDF's from 8610 ADF don't print via wireless network connection.

HP Recommended

If you can scan through the USB cable, but not wirelessly from multiple devices, that suggests that there's a port blocked on your router or firewall. If you disable the firewall or open the ports below then you should be able to scan:

UDP: 137, 138, 161, 427, 80 & 443

TCP: 137, 139, 427, 9100, 9220, 9500, 5222, 5223

Also, it may be wise to enable multicasting and bonjour settings and disable MAC filtering.

Thank you again.

This "dialogue of resolution" is both helpful and appreciated.

To clarify. . .

Scanning by glass - one page at a time - via web browser works and prints

Scanning by ADF via web browser is viewable in Acrobat Reader (not web browser - and there is a "view in other app" notice - but printing from Acrobat results in blank page out of printer.

So ADF scans are viewable in Acrobat (on screen) but do not print. Scans from glass are viewable and print.

The only other thing I can think of is to run the Print and Scan Doctor on a Windows PC. When you select the printer and then Fix Scanning it should tell you what errors it finds. The Print and Scan Doctor will not work on a Mac, but some errors it finds may have a similar issue on the Mac.

Outside of that, I suggest contacting HP Support directly. You can do so by clicking on this link and filling out the form at the bottom.

Please let me know if the Print and Scan Doctors finds any errors. If it does, I should know what is happening at least on your PCs. If it does not find any errors, please let me know what happens after contacting HP Support.
