HP OfficeJet Pro 8028e All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

The screen on my printer shows PRINTER FAILURE and I cannot navigate the screen to adjust any settings or network connections.

Other than the normal troubleshooting (turn off and on, unplug, download drivers, etc.) does anyone have constructive steps or solutions I can explore? Nothing through online support has worked.

@Chooboy31, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Printer Failure for HP OfficeJet Pro 8028e!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

If you've already tried basic troubleshooting steps like power cycling and updating drivers but still face the "PRINTER FAILURE" message, here are some additional solutions you can explore:

Reset the Printer:

  • Disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer while the printer is still on.
  • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Wait for about 60 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power cord to the wall socket and the back of the printer.
  • Turn the printer back on.

Check for Firmware Updates:

  • Use the HP Smart app or go to the printer's control panel to check for any available firmware updates.
  • Installing the latest firmware can resolve issues that are due to outdated software.

Inspect Hardware Connections:

  • Make sure all the cables and cords are securely connected.
  • Check if the power source is stable and not the cause of electrical fluctuations.

Examine Cartridge and Printhead:

  • Remove and reinstall the print cartridges to ensure they are properly seated.
  • Clean the printhead using the printer's software utility or manually if necessary.

Clear Internal Memory:

  • Resetting the printer's internal memory can sometimes resolve errors.
  • Leave the printer unplugged for a longer period (around 10 minutes) to facilitate a deeper internal reset.

Restore Network Settings:

  • If connectivity is an issue, resetting the network settings could help.
  • Refer to printer documentation for specific steps on how to reset network settings to defaults.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
