HP OfficeJet Pro 9125e All-in-One Printer
macOS 12.0 Monterey

Purchased the HP Officejet Pro 9125e on 8/7/2024 and installed.  Noticed the paper tray does not snug up to hold 8.5x11paper.  The sides will snug in, but there is nothing to snug up the back.  How do I fix this?  Won't the paper feed multiple sheets at a time since it's not snugged up?  Is there a fix or a different tray I can purchase for this printer?

Hi @love2par,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If the paper tray on your HP OfficeJet Pro 9125e isn’t holding the 8.5x11 paper securely, here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue.

  • Check for Obstructions: Ensure there are no obstructions or paper jams in the tray or feed area. Sometimes, small pieces of paper or debris can affect how the tray holds paper.
  • Adjust Paper Guides: Make sure the paper guides on the sides of the tray are properly adjusted. They should be snug against the edges of the paper. If the guides are too loose or not aligned correctly, it can cause issues with paper feeding.
  • Check for Tray Installation: Verify that the paper tray is installed correctly. Sometimes, if the tray is not seated properly, it can lead to alignment issues. Remove the tray and reinsert it, ensuring it clicks into place.
  • Update Firmware: Ensure your printer’s firmware is up to date. Firmware updates can sometimes address issues with paper handling and feed mechanisms.

Regarding the concern about paper feeding multiple sheets at a time, it is possible if the paper is not held snugly. Properly adjusting the paper guides and ensuring the tray is correctly installed should minimize this risk.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

While I know I have to accept this solution, I am not happy about it.  For the amount of money I spent to buy this printer and other HP printers I have  purchased, I am a little disappointed in the fix or answer to this issue.  Not only is the paper tray problematic but it is cheaply made compared to the printer (HP OfficeJet Pro8610e) I just replaced for this printer.  If my printer try for this older printer would fit and would work, I would be using that.

That being said, I will have to live with this and hope that enough customers speak up or speak out about this issue.  Hopefully HP will then either come up with a different design or a new paper tray that will accommodate both 8.5x11 and 8.5x14 or possible offer 2 trays and let the folks interchange them as needed.

Hey Alden ...

Love2par expressed my sentiments to the letter, particularly in his response to your first reply.

Unless I'm missing something, the paper cartridge is clearly missing a function that keeps the paper stacked and "snugged" correctly, in order to guarantee clean paper feeding. The cartridge does indeed appear to be a complete afterthought in the design of the printer, and feels very cheaply made. I came from an 8600Plus, and this 9125 just feels like a step backward in quality.

I get the soft and firmware is more advanced in the 9125e, but that doesn't really offset the plastic-y feeling of the "newer" paper delivery system.

May I ask you to follow up with me in the way you did with Love2par? I'm interested in what you may have subsequently recommended.

Many thanks ... I do very much appreciate your support and expertise.

Jofoco4,

Thank you, thank you for also responding regarding the quality and fix for the paper tray on the 9125e.  I am not happy at all with the lack of "fix" or even taking ownership of they know it's a step backward in quality and function.  This is the "reply/fix" I received from HP.  I find it totally unacceptable for don't know where to turn for a better fix or response.  I'm left with wasting paper if I'm trying to print more than a few sheets of paper at once.

Please let me know if you get a better response or are able to secure the paper better. I'm even willing to buy a different tray if necessary.

Yeah, I'm surprised there isn't more reaction on the web ... when I first realized there was no "stop" for 8.5x11, I was sure I had just received a defective accessory with the printer. There was no way they would build it intentionally with no lengthwise paper guide in the cartridge.

Anyway, I posted my note to Alden because his last note to you indicated he was sending you a private message with (I imagined) more information. Did that note to you never materialize? Or did it just contain the "clear the obstructions" response in a different format?

This is all just so curious. HP has been the BMW of printers for so long ... they would last forever. And this release is way uncharacteristic.

Must be new people in charge. And time, i guess, for us to no longer think of them as the go-to vendor for new printers.

Alas!

I found the exact same problem immediately upon set up. My MacGuyver solution was to get the paper at the right spot in the tray, depress the tab to shorten the tray so that the 8" x 14" " gray "handle" snugs up against the paper, and then I taped the sides so that it could not slide backwards. Then I wedged a tiny sticky note pad on the other side from the gray "handle" so that the paper stayed snug.

It's totally ridiculous that we have to come up with a solution like this for a brand new printer. Shame on the NY Times for rating this model as the best home multifunction printer.
