HP Laserjet Pro MFP M28w

Hi, I'm trying to set up my HP Laserjet Pro MFP M28w on Windows 10 PC. I've gone through the software downloads and install. But when I attempt to connect (using USB to setup), the wizard does not offer me the 'next' button. It can't see the printer.

I think the issue is with the printer itself. When I power it up it makes some reassuring start up noises then 'Power' light starts blinking and the lcd is blinking 'HP' (on/off). None of the control panel buttons appear to be responsive, apart from the power button. This blinking pattern occurs with toner cartridge in or out and paper loaded or not, or any combination.

Please help.

Thanks.

Thank you for posting on HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:

  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Remove USB cable, if present.
  • Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
  • Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord (This is important) and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
  • Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.

Once it's done you can try connecting the printer and check.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hi Echo_Lake

Many thanks for your response.

I tried the sequence of action you suggest a couple of times but unfortunately I'm still left with the flashing Power button light and lcd.

I note that I don't need to click the power button on reconnecting the power cable, it remains in the 'on' state.

Any plan 'B'  please?

Thanks
