I installed a brand new version of Windows 10 last week. I deleted and reinstalled my HP OfficeJet Pro 8500 A910 printer, and now it will only print the first job normally (i.e., quickly). The second job hangs in the print queue, while the first job status says it's either "printing" or "sending to printer."
If I cancel all jobs, it will print the first job again and the second job will hang for a long time -- I give up after 5 minutes, delete it and restart the print spooler. (The HP virtual helper gave instructions to restart the print spooler.) Now I need to do that every time I print more than one document. This isn't right.

Good Day. Thank you for taking an interest in the HP community. I understand that you require assistance regarding issues with the print job getting delayed or not working correctly I will be really glad to assist you here. 🙂
Fabulous description and superb diagnosis of the issue before posting. Kudos to you for that. 🙂
To assist you with accurate information I would require more information regarding this:
- What application is being used to print? Is it Word?
- Did it happen after a recent software or Windows update?
- Did it occur after a recent power outage or surge?
For now, try these steps:
Uninstall the printer drivers and reinstall it by performing these steps:
- In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
- Select your HP printer.
- Select Uninstall.
- In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
- In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
- Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
- Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
- Click on Drivers tab.
- Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click Remove at the bottom.
- Select OK.
- Remove all instances of the same.
- Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.
- Close Devices and Printers.
- Restart the PC again.
- Then create a new user account as an administrator from this link: http://hp.care/2rZfJBC
Log into the new user account after restarting your computer.
- Then download the latest full feature driver http://hp.care/2txwUzu and install it on the computer after selecting the correct operating system.
- Connect the printer to your computer only when the setup prompts for the printer.
- This should fix it for you.
- If this does not do the trick, please download the Windows Built-in drivers by following instructions from this link: http://hp.care/2o3acvH
This should do the trick for you. For further assistance please follow the relevant steps from the guided troubleshooter link: http://hp.care/2yF0yF6 (HP Printers - Print Jobs Stuck in Print Queue)
Also update the printer’s firmware by following instructions from this link: http://hp.care/2rHKwDD
This should resolve it for you.
Good Luck and keep me posted. I wish you well. Please perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue.
Hope this helps. Let me know how this goes. I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great.
To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.
Take care now and have a superb week ahead. 🙂

Thank you DavidSMP, you're my newest hero!
What happened: An automatic Windows 10 update froze my log-in screen, so I couldn't use my computer to do anything. I worked with Microsoft Answer Desk to reinstall Windows 10 that saved my files, but erased all my programs. When I developed the printing problem I was using a newly-installed Office 2016 Pro Plus, but I was having trouble printing from ANY program, including QuickBooks and Adobe Acrobat.
I followed your very clear steps to uninstall and reinstall my HP OfficeJet Pro 8500 A910 printer and that fixed it! However, I needed to uninstall the device before the programs. Since I'm already the administrator, I didn't need to create a new admin. account.
Many thanks for your quick reply that WORKED!
